Question about Jesus Christ...

OK, without looking it up on the net (cheating), what year was Jesus Christ Born? This is not a trick question.

PS, if you are Christian and do not know this...shame on you.

aico 08-30-2006 04:07 PM

Sly 08-30-2006 04:08 PM

I think it was in January, a few years before 0000.

GrouchyAdmin 08-30-2006 04:08 PM

Well, you have BC and AD. So, where's that image timeline picture? ;)

aico 08-30-2006 04:09 PM

BTW I wouldn't expect Christians to know, after all, they do celebrate his birthday about 3 months too late.

There are no Christians here.
What were you thinkin'?

Sly 08-30-2006 04:09 PM

January 6, 2-8 years before 0000. I don't know the proper name for that year.

bl4h 08-30-2006 04:10 PM

never :)

wizhard 08-30-2006 04:12 PM

*sometime* in July 62BC

My best bet is the 27th

Michaelious 08-30-2006 04:13 PM

I think i read somewhere ages ago that there was no 0BC or 0AD
so it went from 1 bc to 1ad so technically he would be born on 1AD

RayVega 08-30-2006 04:15 PM

So far no hits...keep trying

stickyfingerz 08-30-2006 04:16 PM

Its pretty debated but the latest findings Ive seen point to around Febuary 4bc.

Oh god, close the thread before this idiot starts talking again.

GrouchyAdmin 08-30-2006 04:19 PM

The biggest thing most of you aren't thinking about was the switch from the Julian Calendar back in the late 1500s. That, and the fact it's hard to carbon date bullshit; whatever your religious beliefs.

Michaelious 08-30-2006 04:22 PM

Does it really matter? And besides i'm beginning to think the original poster doesn't know the answer and is just threading us along:thumbsup

Dont't you worry, know the answer...at least the most widely accepted by scholars.

I am full of useless info :thumbsup

Herod the Great, who the Bible says was alive at the time of Christ's birth, died in the year 4 B.C., based on the reports of Josephus. According to the Gospel of Matthew, when Herod was unable to trick the astrologers into leading him to the Child, he ordered the slaughter of all the male babies in Bethlehem. Since Herod's command (which is not attested outside the Gospels, but is consistent with his historical character) was to kill all babies under age 2, this event occurred no more than 2 years after Christ's birth. If we assume that this happened near the end of Herod's life (which seems likely), this puts Christ's birth in the year 5 or 6 B.C.

So there, we can all sleep tonight...

Bama 08-30-2006 04:37 PM

The bible does not say specifically what age he was when crucified, makes no mention of the date he was born and just like the answer to "is there a heaven or hell?" - it's all speculation.

On a different note - Ray if you still want to discuss that "thing" we spoke about - shoot me an email, I have some updated information to share. gfy at bamas dot com

He is fake? Now you are just showing your ignorance. There is no dispute that he was a real person.

As far as the year, I saw something on TV last night that said 4 BC, but I grew up thinking it was like 33 BC

No my friend he very much did exist - of that I'm 99.99% sure.

The key here is understanding why.

There are plenty of scholars who doubt Jesus ever existed.

Yea, I have to agree, it's written history. might as well say King herod didn't exist. Written Roman records show that a criminal of the state was put to death named Jesus christ of nazareth. Now...Son of God? I am not commenting on that. My opinion he was just another L.Ron hubbard...but he definitely was a prominent figure who had a following which was endangering king herod's power over the people, and therefore the authority of Rome (who supported Herod's ruling the province by authority of the emperor) and was put to death for it. It is written record in court documents from the period...they did keep good records back then. he was put on trial (so to speak) and a manuscript of that event was kept and archived in Rome. it's fact.

There are people who think the holocost didn't happen too, we don't pay attention to them...it's undeniable written history.

remember, this was post-recorded history.

RayVega 08-30-2006 06:28 PM

Alright, i have to admit when my facts are in question:

Jesus was accused of sedition against the Roman Empire, and on the orders of Roman Governor Pontius Pilate was sentenced to death by crucifixion.[2] As the Gospels were not written immediately after his death and there is little external documentation, a small minority of scholars question the historical existence of Jesus. - wikipedia

Donny 08-30-2006 06:33 PM

Nobody truly knows. He probably didn't really exist anyway.

The story of jesus is no more real than any other writting from the past about religious figures. What about muslims, the weird tribes in africa that believe cows and serpants are gods, and the various others. they all have their own "bibles"

stickyfingerz 08-30-2006 06:38 PM

People also believe black helicopters fly over their house, and the aliens probe peoples asses. I can find you books on both those subjects written by people with phd's. I have about the same belief in those as I do in what you linked to. :1orglaugh

aico 08-30-2006 06:38 PM

History is written to hide the truth. :2 cents:
