Anyone with a Toshiba Satellite, tech question please

This is the first device I have owned that has a CD/DVD burner, and I am a little confused here.

I have some blank CD's and blank DVD's but whenever I try to burn music it goes thru the motions but when it comes down to the actual burning onto the blank CD or DVD I get the following errors

A) When I pick - Open a writable CD folder using Windows Explorer - D:/ is not accessible . . incorrect function

B) Burn A CD using Windows Media Player - after it converts files it says it can't burn to the CD, make sure it is clean and not damaged, try a slower speed or a different brand.

I have lowered it to 4X, and with this thing that should be plenty slow enough.

Any ideas what I am doing wrong?

okay, maybe this is a dumb question, but aren't most blank CD's and DVD's already formatted?

did the laptop come with any burning programs? ones besides the windows built in one? like sonic?

Yes it should be a simple pop in and burn situation...No formatting required...

Try getting one of the burning programs such as Nero to try burning with...

It probably came with something? Check thru the program files...

When i had a satellite it would only write to certain types of CD-R and forgot what that was now, I think that was an M30E machine

Well, I am thinking I must have something set wrong since I was able to copy to a DVD but I seem to have issues copying to a CD

This thing is supposed to be able to read and write to all formats (11 or so as I recall)

I'd try the opposite to what your using - chances are it might work - also sometimes - its the brand of disk that makes the difference...
