How Important are Model Releases?
 

Ok, this may sound like a really stupid question but how important are model release forms. I have this girl who I've known for a while who I recently did some pics with. How important is it to get a model release before I post them anywhere on the net. I know this girl well so I know if I posted a few pics she wouldn't sue me. Please, any input would be appreciated.

If you are serious about getting in this Industry, get a lawer, if youre qwuestioning the importance of a model release already, this is the wrong business for you man.

But yeah, model releases are very important! If you intend to make money from any photographs you have produced (girlfriend, ex girlfriend, your neighbors window) you need a signed release form from the model to make it legally yours.

She may not sue you but her boyfriend may when he sees the pictures on the net.

So that she does not turn around and say they were private photos and never meant to be published. OOr is this why you do not have a model release? Iff she is so cool and will not mind ask her to sign a model release and also get 2257 documentation.

Get those model releases from any females you take pictures of, so you dont have any problems later.

By signing she will be giving you authorization to do whatever you want (listed on the release) with the pics.

also get documentation of 2 forms of id. if you get accused for c/p and dont have documentation, you're fucked. if you just want to do this with one set of photos, i would recommend just buying a set for like $20, it will save you a lot of hassle in the long run. :2 cents:

If she is a good friend -- just write up an informal document in plain english so you can agree on how the pics will be used... you don't want her to be pissed at you anyway if she is really your friend. And of course get her ID -- I hear it's a good idea to scan the ID + get a pic of the girl w/ her photo ID in her hand next to her fucking face...

I'm not sure how many people on GFY have actually taken a model release to court -- but I'm pretty sure that the contracts w/ the most weight in court are in plain english and aren't overly complex...

I agree. Your friends with this girl now but you might get in a fight a year from now and she could screw you around.

You need a release for everything you do thats what makes this a business not a hobby. If you want some model release forms just ask I can send them to you (thank's to Paul) And you can edit them for your company.

bling, do yourself a favor. don't even think about posting the pix unless you have ALL the required documentation on file. it's not worth the headaches that will ensue.

Some of this is BAD advice, get a real model release and get her to sign it, get it witnessed, pay her money for the shoot and the release. If English is not her native language, get the model release translated into her native language.

Cos LoveAsianChicks is dead right, today she swallows your cum. But when her brother/dad/boyfriend/neighbor/or anyone else see her pictures or learn what she has done or she thinks you don't like her anymore, or she tells a mate who sees an opportunity to take you to the cleaners. Or you win the Lottery and are worth suing be sure she will come after you.

The ID pics are spot on and again cover you, we do them on every shoot, it proves that "this" shoot was professional and not a test.

Here's another scenario. She gets killed in a car crash, and after her death, whoever is caring for her estate gets wind of the photos, finds no release, and gets the idea that perhaps the pictures were used without permission. Often, a girl's parents may believe that "My nice little girl wouldn't do that unless she was coerced or drugged or something," and the off you go to court!

Somebody should post a "real" model release... even better -- one that actually held its weight in court.
