Has anyone else had a letter regarding a class action against Yahoo?

I had one arrive this morning. A very long winded letter with http://checkmatesettlement.com/ on the bottom of the letter. I doubt I actually qualify anyway, but has anyone heard about this or is it some sort of scam?

hjnet 08-29-2006 03:45 AM

I've gotten it too yesterday, didn't had time yet to read it completely

They must have reached the EU yesterday then.

Yeah I got mine.

At first I thought it was a scam but it's actually legitimate. If you used yahoo advertising between the dates stated in the letter, you are automatically a member of the class lawsuit.

Why did you get that letter? please explain a bit

WiredGuy 08-29-2006 11:10 AM

Its legit.

lawyers are the only ones who benefit in class actions.

BradM 08-29-2006 11:12 AM

It's legit but unless you've spent a GOOOOOD chunk of change with them in the last few years its not worth bothering with.

Yeah, that is what I figured and why I said I doubted that I qualified. It is just odd to get that kind of letter here in the UK. I think once I got a similar(ish) letter about a sponsor going bankrupt or something.

stickyfingerz 08-29-2006 11:26 AM

yup few weeks ago.

If the name isn't familiar, they were formerly Overture and before that they were GoTo. You must have had an advertiser account with one of these companies to have received the letter. They're just notifying every customer, past and present about the suit. For most people, its not worth the hassle. I'm meeting with my attorney to figure out this whole mess though :)

Ah, okay..I used GoTO and Overture for a while but hardly enough to make much out of the case.

Work in a few K for me man...

I remember emailing goto/overture that I was getting a load of hits from the same IPs (not AOL) that were concerning me, they responded with the 'blow off, customer service' answer...

I'll not pursue the matter, just not worth the time and hassle for a few bucks but annoys the shit out of me that they finally had to admit I was wasting some money.

PS: Yes I got 2 of those letters, but as mentioned I won't be doing anything with them.

From the sounds of it, I'll probably end up joining the settlement mostly because of a lack of proof of clickfraud. I only have a few years worth of clicklogs but they make up well over 200 gigs of data. I got better things to do with my time than going through looking for clickfraud patterns to substantiate my own claims against Yahoo.
