Can I move files and upgrade databases while doing a cpanel backup?

Do not want to wait 5 hours for the home directory and mysql database backup to finish downloading to my computer. Would I be able to make directory changes and upgrade the database in the mean time or will this mess up my downloads?

If both computers are online, just have the current server save to it's own disk, then FTP/SCP it across to the new system?

Of course, if the new system is sitting next to you, you're screwed. :)

its not from server to server its from server to my computer. not changing servers, just doing a vbulletin upgrade and wanted to backup the files and database first. its downloading right now to my computer but was wondering if i can proceed with the upgrade now or wait until the downloads to end.

Ah. Well if you are doing minor vbulletin updates, it's fine to apply the update. If you're going from VB 2.x to 3.x, then you're going to want to make the full backup.
