throw your cat in, couple of shallots, garlic, 2 bay leaves, few sliced carrots, salt, paprika, and that's basically it

Get 5-6 nice fat lamb shanks, 4 tablespoons of Worstershire Sauce, 2 cups of a nice full bodied red wine, a handful of roughly crushed mint leaves, some nice fresh finely chopped basil, half a cup of orange juice and whack them all in on LOW.

24 hours later, remove shanks, throw ice cubes into liquid to collect excess fat, spoon out ice cubes, also remove the mint leaves, thicken with a little cornflour to make a kick ass gravy.

Spoon a mountain of creamy mashed potato on your plate, lay a couple of shanks over your mountain and generously lavish with your gravy.

Go directly to gastronomic heaven, do not pass go, do not collect $200.

;-)

Crock pots rule. I have several good recipes. Let me dig them up and I'll post them here in a few.

Slice some turkey sausage like this:

http://www.hormel.com/images/glossar...ey_sausage.jpg

add a couple of pounds of different legumes (1/2 lb each red beans, pinto bean, kidney beans, lima beans or whatever you like)

1 can Rotel tomatoes
1 can tomatoe sauce

enough water to fill cooker

add salt, black pepper, red pepper, garlic, chili powder to taste

let cook

about an hour before you want to eat add 1/2 cup split peas

it's got lots of protein and is low fat

Man we run our slow cooker all the time. Nothing like waking up in the morning after it's been running all night with the days dinner...

There are a lot of great books. I will try and look some up and post.
