is Alexa reliable?
What do you think about that? Is Alexa reliable to check traffic for web sites?
It's a good "indicator". But keep in mind Alexa only tracks hits of people with Alexa Toolbars installed. I don't know who many "surfers" install that sort of thing, or even know that it exists.
it's not very useful in my opinion
or know that other software has installed that :thumbsup
It reliable on sites having 20k+
Alexa is a fucking joke..

do surfers even know who alexa is lol and why would they install the tool bar?? i wish google or yahoo had a traffic list.
Not really. It is usually skewed towards certain demographics. Sales people used to use it because it has contact info, but that is less useful now. They don't do much outbound marketing to recruit people. They are mostly skewed these days to the bundling partnerships they do with companies like Freeze.
The best source of data is Media-Metrix, but it is expensive. What data are you trying to get access to? I have contacts at Media Metrix and NetRatings and could get you data if you need something small. |
Maybe for more mainstream sites that would be more apt to attract visitors with the alexa toolbar... but adult site visitors are fickle, and most likely don't want ANYTHING tracking where they've been...
atleast they don't want their wives knowing! Alexa is a tool to use to screw people when buying an adult domain - not one for truly evaluating traffic or market share. |
