Tell me something good about humanity.
 

I have spent most of my weekend writing a paper for my masters about serial killers. I have read way too much about the evils of humanity. Surely there must be something good?

You're hoping somebody on GFY will tell you something good about mankind? GFYers are some of the most negative people I've ever come across.

i tried thinking of something good but came up with nothing.... :(

I know but I figure if they can come up with something than anyone can. Plus, compared to the lives of the people I have been surrounded by this weekend most people here are just fine (most).

Selflessness... doing acts of good naturally without any thoughts of getting something in return. When I mean nothing I mean nothing including a simple thank you.

Self Sacrifice... putting your life in danger in order to save or help another. Having total loss of ones existance in order to save another person.

Mentally challenge people mostly including Downes Syndrome people. I refer to them walking God's and also that God needs to create something beautiful once in a while (mentally challenged) after all these bad creations (non mentally challenged)

until you read about the motive for so many of these killings

Unconditional love. Few - but some - are willing to sacrifice their own life for others. Jesus is the most known example - and you do not have to be religious to do the same :)

Humans suck. They mess everything up.

But if you must... Unconditional Love.

That no matter what bad things come today, that tomorrow is another opportunity for the scales of balance to bring good. That each tomorrow is another day of hope for those who seek it. If you seek the bad/failure, you will find it. If you stay hopeful, then, for the most part, cosmic/karmic balance will find its place.


This streak of hope is reflected all through humanities history... for the immigrants who came to america to seek a better life to even the new porn newbies who enter this space, that despite the negative government and sometimes social sentiments, people always find a way to try to do things better.. and that, is our most enduring quality, not that of survival (since that is more instinctual), but the drive to be better or to make better.

humbled me slightly, and is a fantastic tale of good in humanity.

When I buy something at the 7-11, I buy a chocolate for the sales clerk.

In general, humans are a virus. We abuse and destroy everything in our path.

However, I truly believe the human mind is the most beautiful creation in all of nature. Nothing comes close to comparing to it. That, by itself can be the best and the worst of everything on this planet.

If you ever get the chance, read - The Cosmic Loom by Dennis Elwell.

Although the book is probably more aimed at serious astrologists, it raises some very thought provoking questions regarding humanities perception of events for "good" or "evil" and IMHO would be a very good reading experience for a serious student of sociology.

Astrology turns me off but I am always up for good bit of sociology.

I actually find the whole criminal mind thing really interesting but I have to take it in chunks or I start to feel like that level of evil is the norm.

It's suprising how closely related the two subjects can often be. The trick is is to accept that we do in fact know so very little about what makes the human race tick regardless of what some highly paid, self-important "experts" would like us to belive.
