Can somebody explain this to me?

Consider the process of oil refinement which is used to create gasoline.....

Why is it that gasoline prices continue to go significantly higher and higher but the price of other oil byproducts does not seem affected at all? Tar, asphalt, and plastic prices seem about the same as they did when gas was under 2 bucks a gallon and they are all made from the same barrel of oil.

WTF, yo?

Will I be paying $6 for a gallon of milk next month because the oil based plastic jug is now more expensive to produce?

War is driving up the prices of gasoline huh? Ignorant people.

Very good points. It's a racket, that's for sure.....

Oil companies are making more money now then they did before, its that simple, we are being overcharged.

Read this recently...

Quote:

Many people who buy bottled water pay 240 to 10,000 times the price of tap water ? including ten to fifteen cents per bottle to cover the cost of advertising.

Despite all the current outrage over the price of gasoline, most North American consumers are casually forking over more for bottled water ? about a buck a quart ? than they are for gas.
That aside, Bush, Cheney and company, have been raping the American people ever since they took office.

The wealthiest people get tax breaks, the military industrialists get no-bid contracts, and the oil industry makes out like raped apes. Oh, and let's not forget China and the other countries financing our record deficits (which is probably the greatest security risk to this nation of all).

Who's paying for this? As usual, the average American worker.

Welcome to the Orwellian world of supporting freedom by giving it up in the form of omni-present cameras, government wire-tapping, and data mining.

We can have nukes, but no one else can, because they may use them offensively, even though we are the only country to do so in the history of atomic/nuclear warfare.

Imagine if the Arab/Muslim nations had such weaponry but we did not. Wouldn't we also covet them? It's okay for Israel to have nuclear weapons, but not their Arab neighbors.

Of course, our media tells us we are right and they are wrong. Isn't that what their media tells them as well?

The internet is an amazing thing. Citizens of the world can bypass their corrupt governments to connect with each other on a personal basis, and understand that most people in the world want the same basic things.

Imagine if the people of the world were to harness the power of the internet for the benefit of humanity...don't expect the politicians to do it.

The oil industry?s prices have, and always will, be set by speculation. If tomorrow NK and Iran tested nuclear weapons, oil prices would skyrocket; not because there is any less oil, not because production has went up or down, but because there would then be a possibility (however small) of war and then the process will just repeat itself over and over and over. Events like 9-11 are goldmines for the oil industry, they absolutely eat it up.

Yup, their profits are higher than ever. IF it truly was a matter of a shortage or refinement problems or what ever, then it would cost them more... so they'd charge us more... it would balance out their profits.

but NO... they raise their prices and their profits sky rocket. That tells me that it's not costing them an extra penny. They're just raising prices because they're greedy bastards and we keep buying cause we have no choice. It's extortion.

Yep, the oil per barrel or whatever the case may be might be more, but if you are pumping your own, or if you have a previous supply like im sure exxon mobile does, you are making a killing. Its a shame they dont put the cost of gas based on the oil companies cost average/gal. I would think there average cost per barrel is less then was it is on the market, due to what they have in stock already. Just a theory..Anyhow common sense says, they are making more money, we are paying more money = us getting ripped off

BlueWire 08-25-2006 04:31 AM

That would be a good point; but i dont think that its true.

Just as an example...Carpet prices have almost doubled in the last 2 years because of oil prices

That could be the carpet companies arent using in stock oil, they are using new oil with higher prices per barrel.

That's partially because they have to pay more to ship it because they're paying the same extortion prices we are every time they fill up at the pump.

I don't claim to be a carpet expert. But the guy who owned the carpet store said that the plastic was costing more because of oil and was bringing the price of carpet up.

s2kcord 08-25-2006 05:34 AM

Plain and simple the gas keeps going up because china needs gas to! It's called supply and demand we make gas and we use all the gas we make! Before we use to have gas leftover not anymore the demand is way high so what we need is more refiners and not use all the gas we produce and gas prices will go lower.

Makes sense too.... everyone gets hit pretty hard from these rising gas prices.
And it's all in an effort to line some guy's pockets a little finer.
