is .com necessary
 

Do you guys think having a .com is necessary or will domain extentions like .net .biz .us and others do just fine when .com is taken?

well assuming you coudl get a really good domain name on .net or some weird name on .com which one would you go for

an easy to remeber name on .net is much better
( ihave just learned this in another thread on gfy)

first things everyone types in are sex.com, lesbians.com, hardcoresex.com

... and so on.

i don't know of anyone that would type in lesbians.biz

Dot com is easier for MOST surfers to remember cuz that's all they know. And it's the best for typ-in traffic. But any extension will work just fine...and the SEs won't know the difference. I wouldn't say .net is much better tho. Personally, I try for dot com first...and if I can't get that, then dot net, then dot org...and so on.

but what are the chances youll get any type in traffic wiht domains that are not already registered

it really depends on what you are going to be using the domain name for. for gallery posting it don't matter at all, a paysite, yeah .com is better, a TGP it's 50/50 and really not important if you are a script driven site.

.com is important if you want to be really cool.

I think it just depends on what kind of site you run.. If you care about branding it's important, if you don't need to care, then don't..
