The Bill Murray movie "Broken Flowers"... seen it yet?

I caught it on Movie Central last night. Found it to be one seriously twisted movie.

Not your average Bill Murray.

Absolutely awesome, and hilarious at times. It kinda reminded me of Lost in Translation though.

Yes, it did have a bit of that "feel" to it.

The part where the biker clocked him in the eye and he wakes up in a field was priceless. So was the scene where the ex-girlfriend's 16 or 17 yr old daughter wanders out in front of him naked repeatedly. (funny how a hollywood movie can do that put it's considered a huge no-no to even post a clothed pic of a teen girl, even on this board)

Good movie, weird ending.

Good movie, weird ending.

The actress playing Lolita was actually like 21 when the movie was shot (I had the exact same thought as you, so I looked it up).

Personally, I thought the ending was pretty good. It leaves you guessing (just as he is), and raises some interesting thoughts. For example, with his implied history, he could well have more children. Having never settled down, his whole connection to the world is ambiguous - he has no idea of how his actions throughout his life have affected others.

Oh I realize that, but she is portrayed in the movie as being in her mid teens. On the internet that causes a huge uproar, but in the movies it's somehow magically "okay"... is my point. I've noticed this little double standard often over the years, and it surfaced again after watching this film.

The ending was good, just... weird, is all. I found much of the movie to be... well, "weird" is about the only word I can think of at the moment. lol

In this case weird is good.

I found some of the long scenes where he's just sitting there staring off into space for 40 seconds, a minute, 90 seconds... to be somewhat arduous to the point of me getting up and topping up my drink, then coming back to the TV to find him STILL sitting there staring. :1orglaugh

robfantasy 08-20-2006 12:47 PM

i liked the movie

godisdead 08-20-2006 01:06 PM

I liked Lost in Translation better. Bill Murray movies are good in general, but this one didn't make it to the top of the list.

ING_webmaster 08-20-2006 01:16 PM

Sounds interesting, will have to watch out for it in the UK

Nightwind 08-20-2006 02:16 PM

Jaii 08-21-2006 03:41 AM

i think bill murray is seriously under rated when it comes to his acting, I he is a great actor but unfortunately when most people think bill murray they think ghost busters or ground hog day!

ahhhhh ground hog day...

Jaii 08-21-2006 03:42 AM

I wondered how the nude scene was legal, too. I understand the girl was actually over 18, but how do you think the feds would like it if someone made a web site with a naked 18 year old girl and it said on the front "Beth is 15!"

I wonder that too.

I was really disappointed... I guess I expected something different, and I'm a huge Bill Murray fan.
