video editing question

When i take the video off my dvd camera to the computer
it seems that the voice is like a few seconds ahead of the video and it is fucking annoying

what causes this?

DeadFidel 08-18-2006 11:35 AM

It has happened to me once or twice. When I edit it (I use Vegas) the tracks match back up.

What firewire card are you using?

Which software do you use to import the raw data?

Maybe that helps at first:

DVD cameras are the worst for trying to edit anything. They are only good for shoot and play.

USB is extremely slow compared to Firewire (not sure if that is where your problem lays, but it could be), and definitely edit with a professional program (Premiere, Final Cut Pro, Vegas, etc). Apple's iMovie is the only non-pro product which I have seen that is able to edit video reasonably well.

i dont thnk me doing it on a 2ghz laptop with 1 gig of ram helps any at all

what about those built in Hard drive cameras? i am not shooting content here

just personal shit

just want the audio to sync right

SinisterStudios 08-18-2006 01:04 PM

Its normal, the capture is slightly slower than the playback on the unit. It should be fine once you play it on the computer or in your editor

always capture with firewire.
2, get a 10k seagate cheetah drive for capturing and rendering, at least 2 gigs of ram.You are probally dropping frames.

also, if you are capturing make sure your audio is .wav or you could be compressing the audio to mp3 while you are still in raw dv. this problem was common when converting dvix to mpeg.
maybe Redshoe will make an appearence in here. He's an ocean of knowledge.
