Interesting Google stats / market share.

Just saw this....
This report http://searchenginewatch.com/showPage.html?page=2156451 shows Google having a 46% on searches made with Yahoo a huge 23%.

An Alexa guy (I assume) did his own homework analyzing the Alexa stats and came up with the following which hits home Google`s dominance:

-----
Does Yahoo really still have 23% of the search market? Is Google at less than half the search market?

I don't believe it. Any webmaster will tell you that Google represents almost ALL of the search engine traffic. Yahoo is nowhere near 23%. Just read the blogs, here, here, here and here and on countless other blogs.

So I decided to poke around Alexa's stats and generate my own search engine market share graph. According to my calcs, Google is at almost 85% market share. Yahoo is at 9%. This seems to mirror what I expected.
I'm not sure why the premier (read: expensive) services don't match what everybody sees in their logs...

Simple logic defies those numbers. MSN and all others only have 6% search share?

Why do I bother....

BTW, thank you Dre for actually checking before posting.

I thought these stats were more interesting

http://weblogs.hitwise.com/bill-tanc...es%20Table.PNG

Seems Google is a bit of a one trick pony as it currently stands. Maybe things will change, but their release of Google Video (which, with their standing and money should of been a huge hit, but instead has been a bit of a flop in comparison to YouTube [which reminds me of Orkut]) tells me they aren't doing too good of a job of moving past pure search. I mean look at Google Talk 0.01% lol.

I'm pulling a figure out of my ass here, but 0.01% of a billion hits is still 100K hits. It's not like it's a total flop.

No matter what Google does, their search engine is always going to account for a large percentage of their traffic. They know it and I'm sure they're not concerned.

Pretty much yeah. The guys just say that there is no way that yahoo has 20 % of the search market.

Some guys get a lot of yahoo SE and others don't.

Yahoo is pretty damn big and always have been even thought I hate them.
