The Best Video Formats?
I've been having quite a few clients lately asking about video delivery methods so I figured I'd make this nice little page so I don't have to answer the same question 5 times a week. =]
After constant tweaking and upgrading and re-tweaking and research on what is selling/retaining... this is the convention we are currently going with. I'm sure there are 100 other opinions out there but this is what has show the best numerical results for our sample data. I hope you find it useful. I'm sure the discussion and other opinions on here will be just as enlightening as the sample. http://guaranteeddesigns.com/promotools/boards/vid/ |
Excellent Mark. This has been a hot topic as of late. Going to give it a read now. :thumbsup

damn dude, thanks for the shiznit

Btw have you seen anything on the newest real format? I have a few downloaded cough cough movies in the new real format that are around 200mb, and the quality matches or exceeds that of .wmv and .mpg. Ive got some mp4 that is also amazing quality vs size.
Oh the real extension is .rmvb |

Thanks for the page Mark, I've been trying to find something to back up my opinions and this will do nicely. Mind if I hit you up in the near future to discuss FLV a little more in depth? Would greatly appreciate it.

good seeing you for a few min at internext :1orglaugh wouldve like to have hung a bit and talked some music - catch you at one of the upcoming shows! |
Looks good Mark and excellent post. We have used Discreet Cleaner for years to format video but have been thinking of checking out Sorenson for a while. Would be interested to see how they compare.

The absolute best vid codecs for quality vs. size would have to be VP7 and H264 in my opinion. H264 is extremely slow but gives you just about the best quality you can get? and VP7 can under most circumstances even outperform H264, but it makes H264 look like a fucking roadrunner. VP7 is probably the slowest codec to encode with. As of now, I?m able to get near-dvd quality at around 190mb per hour of video when using VP7, but it?s just not worth the time it takes to do each video? takes roughly 16 hours per hour of video =\
Of course none of these choices are viable in the porn market, but they are just about the best thing available in my opinion. |
we hav 1280-720 and 4000 kbps WMW - quality id pretty good - you can see examples in our HDv site

Bump for the day crew, great post.

I was just trying to decide what to do about this very subject yesterday thanks alot!

Great post and info. I hear good things about Sorenson Squeeze.
We use Compressor on the Mac so we can encode to our render farm of compression machines. I wish Sorenson offered a clustering option so you can add more machines to increase output. |
great info... one further thing is ...What size would you go for using widescreen ?
