How to stop hotlinking
 

What's the best way to stop it and redirect the traffic ?

I looked at my stats and the movies in one of my galleries are getting twice as much traffic as the gallery had itself ... lol

I would think htaccess. no?

Prob htaccess and permit only your site to display content... something like this...

htaccess doesn't work for movies....

You should get an anti-hotlinking script.

AHL works for movies and is pretty decent.

Just stuff a line like this into your htaccess (see above for full version)

If you have .asf's etc - just add them to the list as below:

RewriteRule [^/]+\.(asf|exe|mpeg|mpg|avi|mp3|gif|jpg|ASF|JPG|GIF|M P3|AVI)$ - [F]

I hate to break it to ya but that doesn't work....the line would be correct but you can
still hotlink the actual movie files.

Yea? Got to say I'm never actually used it for movies - you know what the difference is SG?

movie players don't pass referrers so there's no way you can filter by referrer
and determine of someone is allowed to open the file or not.

find a php programmer that will make a script that renames the directory the files are in every x hours then if its hotlinked it will 404 error

you cannot stop video hotlinking

the only downside to AHL is that it will fail if AHL web connectivity is lost.

so you write a few lines of shell script to check and restart if needed. :winkwink:

i haven't saw your site , though i guess the vids are free for everyone , though if you would have had them into a member area would be no problem, and hotlink would be gone.A php programmer can change you all the folder names etc, but they can still be hotlinked after that with the right adress ... just browsing the forum ... and answering an 2006 thread lol
