I could use some Idea's and advice

Leaving for Budapest on Sept 4th

Flying on British Airlines and have a stop over in Heathrow.

So this means I have to check all my stuff, 3 cams, laptops, even Ipods, etc...

Here is my problem No way do I want to put all that in check baggage. Come on we are talking close to 10K worth of electronic stuff that really can't take being tossed around. I could try packing the shit out of the stuff, bubble wrap and use my clothes and padding too. However when the bag goes through inspection and some one wants to look at it they will of course Un wrap and pack it. So then what ?

I'm thinking of shipping the stuff ahead of my flight with say Fed X ?

I don't have hard cases and to tell the truth unless I have to don't want to spend that much money on them. Really not being cheap here either remember this is a International flight so there is Baggage Restrictions. I would need the mother of all Hard Cases to hold the equipment as well as clothes and stuff. You can only check two bags and there is size and weight limits as well.

So any suggestions ???

Maybe by Sept 4th they will come down and go back to normal.

I'd ship it fedex and have it insured. :2 cents:

25lbs my own package, dropped off a fed x location, with 5K insureance is 446.00 usd.

Not so good. I can get some hard cases for that and put in the bottom of the plane. At least this way I have bullet proof lugauge

Grapesoda 08-13-2006 01:56 PM

446 isn't that bad really . . total tax write off too btw . . seems like yer stuff would weigh more than 25 lbs though? I figured it would be worth about $500 to do it

Grapesoda 08-13-2006 01:58 PM

yes and good point. That weight is just for the cam's. Figure the laptops can go in the baggage. Otherwise its another 20lbs easy.

Really is a pain in the ass. The other times I just carry it on - On a positive note - Things could change by Sept and maybe I can carry it on again.

A good hard case that you can check will save you alot of money over the years.

Now this would be best. Hit the guy with a nice tip and hope for the best. The stuff just can't be tossed around like most baggage.
