WTF is up with this?

http://www.redway.org/main.html

anyone know about this place? I was checking my stats and seen it sent me 30k hits to a directory I left open. Bastards
:ak47:

Redway is a big TGP and he links to directories, but he doesn't hotlink, from what was said on a previous thread here on GFY and from what I've seen.

Set up your server to not display directories and it won't happen.

If you do a search for Redway here on GFY, I think there was info on how to set up the server properly.

What do you mean a directory you left open?

FlyingIguana 06-15-2002 12:09 AM

not putting an index file in a dir

SetTheWorldonFire 06-15-2002 12:11 AM

I can't belive you don't know about readway yet.

Solution: Put a link to a sponsor or your money maker in the index of your dir. ASAP.

Best advice I can give you. :thumbsup

FlyingIguana 06-15-2002 12:11 AM

redway has prolly the worst rules i have ever seen on a tgp...

eRock 06-15-2002 12:12 AM

Try putting yourdomain.com/niche/indes.html & yourdomain.com/niche/pics/index.html

Problem solved.

kenny 06-15-2002 12:13 AM

Already done, I usually cap off the directory with the index page when its complete, I like to leave them open when I am building on it, so I can view the contents with the browser.

I still think it's fuck up, I see huge movie directories left wide open, it's not hotlinking but they are still robbing bandwidth.

I agree, but it's their own dumbass fault for leaving it open like that....
I've done it by mistake before & have paid the price.

is rape content legal?

kenny 06-15-2002 12:26 AM

I am going to start opening my directories and submit them there, and when they get accepted I will put the cap back on:winkwink:

Oh yeah...totally.

FlyingIguana 06-15-2002 12:29 AM

redway should be hung by his balls for doing this.

obviously its up to the directory owner to protect themselves, but typically it'll be the noobs who don't know about this. then they get their bandwidth bill...

when i first started out i learned about htaccess after i lost my hosting account from a hotlinker. i wasn't a happy camper.

kmanrox 06-15-2002 12:33 AM

I didn't loose my account, but I definitely learned the hard way....

kenny 06-15-2002 12:35 AM

Thats alot of content he is linking to, this site gets alot of traffic, I say the top link could probably get 70k

FlyingIguana 06-15-2002 12:48 AM

ya thats a ton of bandwidth especially the one with like 50 mpgs.

i bet redway wouldn't be a popular guy at webmaster conventions lol

With his traffic, I'm sure he's popular with someone. :)
