the cabs in winnipeg are now all hybred

had a few cab rides last night - as i don't drink and drive, and found out they are all now toyota hybreds.

they say used to cost them $50-$60 a night in fuel and now it's $10-$15

that's about $1300 a MONTH fuel savings! WOW

they have great power and are very cool cars

jact 08-12-2006 10:37 AM

We rented one of the Impala Flexfuel vehicles to drive from Buffalo to TO and they are great too... amazing on gas and peppy to boot.

BoyAlley 08-12-2006 10:37 AM

Wow that is a huge difference! It's cool to see "green" technology making economic sense in the business world.

jact 08-12-2006 10:38 AM

They just need to set up E85 stations in Canada now

Daruma 08-12-2006 10:38 AM

if only NY and most other major cities would adopt the same

Jakke PNG 08-12-2006 10:41 AM

The next car I'll buy will be either a $150 beater or a hybrid car.. depending when/where I'll buy it. :)

NoCarrier 08-12-2006 10:45 AM

It's spelled "Hybrid" you illiterate dyslexic fat fuck.

DutchTeenCash 08-12-2006 10:48 AM

amazing

shame the new diesel engines are like 3 times as 'green' and cost a hell of a lot less to maintain

lulu36 08-12-2006 12:45 PM

very cool! i hope more cab co. go that route. makes sense on so many levels.

jigg 08-12-2006 01:09 PM

too bad the horsepower on these hybrids sucks.
The Toyota Prius has 76 gas/67 electric horsepower

Kimo 08-12-2006 01:11 PM

thats awesome! too bad all the cabs in amerikka are still crown vics and cadillacs

StickyGreen 08-12-2006 01:11 PM

hmm, this could make the taxi industry much more profitable...

cool1 08-12-2006 01:14 PM

Yes most of the cabbies I have talked to lately have all gone or in the process of switching over to the hybreds.
They are not a bad little car, not as peppy as I would like them to be, but the gas savings more than makes up for, if you are just running around the city.
I was thinking of getting one myself to replace my Jimmy

One company here in Victoria deals mainly with hybrids. Those cars are great. No idle shaking or anything - it feels like they're not even on. They don't have much against my 77 chev 350 tho.

SAM SIYC 08-12-2006 03:10 PM

That's cool!

it's about time these cars start making "business" sense for people to use them!

maybe life on earth will last couple more years this way ! :helpme

Jeep is supposed to be coming out with a feul effiecient diesel about the time my lease should be over. Hybrids won't make it where I live, but something like a good diesel would.

Hybrids are supposed to cost more and have more costs in the long run - I wonder if the cab companies will keep buying them. Seems like a perfect way to test them with all the mileage they'll be putting on them.

1. I wouldn't own another Ford if you paid me
2. The Ranger I had with the 6 cyl barely made it up - we had to load it with 250 pounds of sand which of course killed the MPG.
3. Hybrids are too expensive on the long run for my taste.

It's still cool to see some place applying common sence rules.

All cabs and most cars in Rio (and Brazil) are hybrid. They also have the option of natural gas, as well as ethanol, and blends with regular gas. Plenty of natural gas stations around. The stations usually have all 3.
