SEO and the problem with Google checking class C networks!!!

so everyone talks about how having sites on multiple class C networks is important if you link between each one. they talk about google giving a penelty or even see this as spam and maybe banning the site.

well think of this. if i am in a certain niche and have a competitor i want to get banned by google all i have to do is buy a virtual hosting accounts all on the same class c network put up some bogus domains, get them banned in google, and then link them to my competitors website, and he gets screwed.....

so is there any truth in this multiple class C network check that google does to penalize sites or is this all speculation?

There is no money in SEO, Google is the mythical unicorn.

It doesn't affect sites if you just link to them. But if they give you link back, or link to spamish-like websites, that can trigger a penalty at big G.

google does not penalize a site that is getting linked to FROM a banned site, google only penalizes a site that is linking TO a banned site. The reason for this is the scenario you just described.

Correct, sir.

Google has stated repeatedly that your site cannot be penalized or banned due to what others do (i.e. linking to you, spamming your site on msg boards, etc.). At worst, links from spammy sites, same C-class, etc. won't help you - they'll essentially be given zero weight.

And how is that Google knows who put the spam on message boards about a site?
