A Bachelor's Degree in Psychology
 

my friend just got one of these. he doesn't wanna be a psychologist. he thinks all he can do is wipe his ass with it. what would you do with it?

i would go back for a masters. a bs in psy will land nothing better than a 24k/yr job at a junior high in central alabama

go to law school

did he do one of those mail-in degree deals?

I got advice, get a decent job in management somewhere.

my friend just got his masters in that field and now works in a prison talking to inmates. He said it is good money, and he enjoys the job.

That's known as the "cop out" degree. The least amount of credits than any other degree needed to graduate. Many people take it just to get out of college earlier and have a degree. :2 cents:

If he doesn't mind going to school for a few more years, why not use it to get into a business school and get an MBA?

i dont think a degree in psy is enough education to score high enough on the gmat's to get into a decent mba program..

a masters in psych does not provide much in the way of caraeer paths. He can do the school psycholgist route and at least he gets his summers off.

My BA is in Psych, too. :)

Does not matter what your degree is in.. Notice most decent jobs will say "University degree required" alot of times they dont specify.. If you can complete university and get a degree, it shows you atleast had to be somewhat responsible, have time management skills etc etc.

absolutely...a BS in psych is pretty much worthless and even MA degrees in counseling only pay 'so so'...

I've got a B.A. AND a M.A. in Psychology and am currently working towards a Ph.D. (very slowly though because I have to work too). I plan to do 60% research/40% Clinical stuff (only to pay the bills though).

Unfortunately there isn't much you can do with just a B.A. in Psychology. For that matter, there isn't much you can do with a B.A. in the majority of fields either.

He shouldn't dispair though. He needs to take some time and figure out what he is truly interested in. Chances are, he'll be able to incorporate his psych degree into it.

How about a job in Pharmaceutical Sales? I am in the interview process right now with Ortho-McNeill. Does he know how much $ Pharmaceutical Sales Reps get? Very, VERY decent scratch, usually with perks such as a company car, bonuses, etc.

Ortho-McNeill is interested in my BECAUSE of my Psych background.

Suggest that to him and let him chew on it awhile!

Why did he took that course in the first place if he doesn't want to practice it?
