Tullian Zombie 08-09-2006 09:17 PM

Because it sucks here (yes, I live in the Midwest too).

Nothing to do
Nothing to see
Landlocked from all sides
and a big bunch of blah
not to mention unpredictable weather

Bah!

Wolfy 08-09-2006 09:36 PM

That's CRAP, and here's why:

So fucking what?

Anyway, other than proving to me that the world did NOT run out of idiots - thanks for bumping my thread, because I realized the true answer to my question.

I'll let someone else post it though, because why waste a good thread? :D
Bah![/QUOTE]

Tullian Zombie 08-09-2006 09:40 PM

sorry.

I'm not an idiot though. I just don't like it here. I'm glad that you do. I just hate it in my own area of the Midwest.

I love it how when someone disagrees, they're automatically an idiot.

Wolfy 08-09-2006 09:44 PM

don't get me wrong - there are tons of idiots in the world. I read your reply and saw that you were using your own negative view of your world and your situation and applying it to my question, and quite honestly - that doesn't make sense to me.

"I hate it here, I hate my life, and that's why (*insert random situation here*) (*insert random negative word like sucks, blows, is bullshit, etc*)" - when I see someone post stupid shit like that, I tend to think they're most likely an "idiot" - or rather, someone I won't be listening to.

nothing personal, as far as it makes sense to apply that phrase to our situation.

:D

sandman! 08-09-2006 09:49 PM

most webmasters around here dont go out much the last show we had around here had a ton of no shows only event around here is mr skin's summer bash which was a few weeks ago.

Tullian Zombie 08-09-2006 09:50 PM

I got ya.

It's just when I go different places and then return home, I'm like "wow, this blows!"

Grass is greener phenomena I guess.

Bro Media - BANNED FOR LIFE 08-09-2006 09:54 PM

fucking a right doggy, chicagoland would be an awesome show!

i'm like wofly, i love it in the midwest!

Iowa is where i live... and to be honest, it would take alot for me to move... everythings so cheap...

where else can you get a river/lake front home, very beautiful and a good spot without having to pay $500k?

Bdiddy 08-09-2006 09:57 PM

So the zombie has a different opinion of the midwest...get off his jock.

I wouldn't go to a show in Muncie, Indiana :2 cents:

aico 08-09-2006 10:11 PM

The idea is to have them where people would actually like to go, and not have them where people actually try to get away from. :2 cents:

mattz 08-09-2006 10:16 PM

milwaukee wi? i live about 10 min from you probably

that's close enough to the answer I came up with. I love Chicago, but the draw is based on my personal experiences, not the advertising budget.

DAMMIT sandman! Tell me next time we have a show around here!

Wolfy 08-09-2006 10:27 PM

mattz - don't you owe me a beer? From that one night at that one place?!

baddog 08-09-2006 10:33 PM

because when we try to get you guys to come out even for a small event, you are no shows

jayeff 08-09-2006 11:06 PM

This is what happens every time someone starts talking about "Mid-West" meetings. I live fairly close to the exact center of the US, but I'm 3 hours drive plus a near 2-hour flight away from Chicago. If I were up for that, another couple of hours to the "usual" locations really doesn't make that much difference.

Biggy 08-09-2006 11:10 PM

The midwest isn't as porn-friendly.

you really think everyone in Cali and FL really wanna go to their same state?

just because YOU don't wanna go, doesn't mean everyone else does... theres ALWAYS people coming to the midwest to get away from the shores...

riscphree 08-10-2006 12:58 AM

I guess there are plenty of reasons why. I've lived in Nebraska and now Missouri (as far as midwest states) and yeah, there isn't anything out here.
I think

that quote summarizes it right there. And you absolutely cannot forget this

I must admit that Casper, WY did grow on me while I was visiting friends there. Not that I'd want to be there in the winter, mind you.

On a road trip first driving from Vancouver to Tampa, then back up and over to las Vegas via Kansas, though, I realized that the midwest is quite very boring. Flattish. Plain. Bad weather. Hot. Bugs. Humid. Windy. The only thing that caught my eye was the St. Louis arch at sunrise.

But then I'm from the wet coast. We have our own problems out here. :)

potter 08-10-2006 02:05 AM

Chicago is such a huge city. The only "real show" held at a larger city is L.A.. I really never understood why there weren't any events in Chicago, even smaller gatherings. I would be at any Chicago event in a heart beat.

We've been trying to get a NY show for some time now ...it's just hard to get a good hotel and keep the cost down. we should do a Crackhead getaway like redneck getaway ... stay in a crackhead hotel ... hell there'll be plenty of hookers .. they have no teeth but what the hell ..lol

Tdog 08-10-2006 07:28 AM

Midwest gets to cold. Webmasters need the sun and warmth.

Casper is a great city except all the damn wind. I grew up in lander, about 90 miles from Casper. To see any major concerts or even fly anywhere worthwhile, everyone had to go to Casper. I learned to love the city and might even retire back to that area one day.

Minnesota

Speaking of which, Minnesota has some great lake resorts that would love a show

haha, i didn't mean only Iowa, i ment the midwest in general, Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska, some of Illinois, and Wisconsin

ElConquistador 08-10-2006 01:43 PM

a St. Louis show would be a good idea.
Chicago is a much better city, but it's expensive and congested. St. Louis would be easier to pull off a get together/networking event.

Minte 08-10-2006 02:10 PM

The desert in the middle of summer,
South Florida in the peak of hurricane season
and Vegas during CES make so much more sense than Chicago in the summer.

Pornwolf 08-10-2006 03:13 PM

Fly-Over-States.

Also, the fact that they are red states doesn't bode well for setting up a large scale convention in those areas.
