Ever heard of The Tragically Hip?

I'm sure every Canadian has...

I heard today that Bob Rock has taken over their production and management in an effort to bring the band more exposure in the rest of the world (the US in particular)...

So bring on the "I listened to The Hip back when..." stories. :thumbsup

MaddCaz 08-09-2006 07:54 PM

wait...that's ME!!!!!

Easton 08-09-2006 07:54 PM

of course... "Road Apples" baybee!

god i think i saw them like 10 times... back in the early 90s

MaddCaz 08-09-2006 07:56 PM

the god look!

Spunky 08-09-2006 07:58 PM

They pretty much had their 15 minutes..their best days are behind them

Red Ezra 08-10-2006 01:42 AM

new orlenas is sinking is still pretty relevant song considering katrina - have it on my ipod

Elli 08-10-2006 01:45 AM

Highly interesting.. Bob Rock, you say? Hmmm....

Mr. Soul 08-10-2006 02:55 AM

I remember buying their first album on tape, the self titled one. It only had one good song, smalltown bringdown, the rest sucked. Since they they're released about 7-8 classic albums. You can buy their shit down here but they never play it on the radio and I've never heard about them coming to town for a tour.

goldrush 08-10-2006 03:00 AM

congrats to the winners

Gentle_Ben 08-10-2006 03:04 AM

I was really into the Hip. Fully Completely I think was the best album they ever made. Saw them years ago at the HorseShoe Tavern, Maple Leaf Gardens, etc... One of the best Canadians bands for sure.

38 years old never kissed a girl! haha :thumbsup

fuzebox 08-10-2006 03:46 AM

Americans have heard of The Hip?!?? *surprise*

They kick ass, I don't know which album I prefer... Day For Night, Trouble at the Henhouse, or the older shit.... I'm still surprised people on here have even heard of them. I've been going to their concerts since grade school......

flashfire 08-10-2006 03:56 AM

they are okay

I'd agree Fully Completely is their best work to date.

I'm not sure they're finished though. Bob Rock took Bon Jovi and made them very fresh again. He could do the same for the Hip. Especially since they're way more talented than Bon Jovi.

New Orleans is sinking is a classic rock song though. (IMO)

quiet 08-10-2006 06:01 AM

i must have seen them a dozen times throughout my university years. love the old stuff up to fully completely. never really got into any of the albums after that.

Evil Chris 09-06-2006 11:34 AM

anyone hear the new single yet? It's not bad.

Gentle_Ben 09-06-2006 11:37 AM

gonna check it out :thumbsup

thanks

Dollarmansteve 09-06-2006 11:37 AM

the hip = 1995 for me... day for night.

JFK 09-06-2006 11:52 AM

I have heard of them, they are OK , but by far not one my favorite bands:2 cents:

Elli 09-06-2006 11:52 AM

I thought they toured the states quite a bit, just not huge stadium tours. Hm.

I saw them in the early 90's in Syracuse NY in a bar. About 300 people were there. They had played two nights earlier in Canada (Ottawa) in front of 18,000.

Gnat69 09-06-2006 12:42 PM

of course I am in canada and I saw them in 1986 in Cambridge and New Orleans is sinking was just becoming popular, I have seen them a dozen times and they never disappoint!!!

Dwreck 09-06-2006 12:48 PM

I love them and Im ashamed to say I have never saw them live. So I bought Thier live DVD that I plan on watching again tonight.

50 Mission Cap is a favorite of mine :)

GTS Mark 09-06-2006 01:11 PM

Wheat Kings baby!!! Nothing better than being up at my cottage in the muskokas, drinking a cold beer and listening to the hip on my IPOD stereo.

One of my favorite things in the world! :)

Wow, That is great news! With Bob Rock they can't go wrong.

Cman 09-06-2006 01:20 PM

They used to be the best band in history, but their last few albums have been disappointing.

If you are new to the band, listen to their first 5 albums, as opposed to the more recent ones, before you form your opinion of them.

Best recorded album is Day For Night and best album overall is Live Between Us. They are definetely a live band and if you can download live versions of their songs, they are much cooler than the recorded versions.

Joe BrainCash 09-06-2006 01:23 PM

Their classic song "New Orleans Is Sinking" was banned of radios last year when the drama surronding the city happenned. It was always the most requested song of the day. Sick sense of humor I guess.

Bryan G 09-06-2006 01:23 PM

I Hate The Fucking Hip, They Are Complete Shit

huey 09-06-2006 01:33 PM

It was in Bobcageon that I saw the constellations reveal themselves one star at a time.

Rochard 09-06-2006 01:45 PM

Sweetums turned me on to them.

hehehe I remember during Katrina and afterwards, they stopped playing that song on many stations in the US and a few up here

Which is understandable

I'd say Zepplin's "Levee Breaks" song would be even worse and more to the point

ajrocks 09-07-2006 10:16 AM

I grew up on the hip they rock!

Mighty Chin 09-07-2006 10:23 AM

The Hip Are The Greatest Canadian Band! They kick absolute ass!

WiredGuy 09-07-2006 10:31 AM

yys 09-07-2006 10:32 AM

Good band. I've seen them a few times.

Back in the 80's when I was growing up in Kingston my friends father was Johnny Fay's drum teacher. I managed to score one of The Hip's demo tapes. A few years later when I was in Highschool in the GTA I lent the tape to a friend. He ended up taping the popcorn remix version of tainted love and some shit house over it. I could have killed him. That tape would have been worth mucho dollars today.

Mighty Chin 09-07-2006 10:34 AM

They do ok along the border states.

thehand 09-07-2006 10:40 AM

As far as Canadian bands, I liked "The Tea Party" better than the hip.

madawgz 09-07-2006 10:45 AM

yeah ive heard of them,, never really digged their music much...

I just heard the new single. Not bad IMO.

Martin 09-07-2006 12:01 PM

I've been into The Hip since I was a grasshopper.. Love em. Some of their songs have been killed by the radio by overplay but still one of my favorite. Road Apples was a CD made for driving:thumbsup

IWantU_Jeff 09-07-2006 12:14 PM
