AMA reports copyright infringement from my IP?
I got a letter from my ISP - telling me that the american movie association informed them I was serving copies of their movies from my IP address.
The obvious part is .. I'm NOT .. But how could they think I am? Can an IP be spoofed? My ISP - wrote the AMA back and told them that they'd told me to take the movies down ..blah blah .. which REALLY pisses me off since i don't HAVE any movies ! What can I do? I have black ice installed, and just a DSL modem. Would a router offer me more protection from this? or am I just vulnerable? How do I prove I didn't do this? |
get a harware firewall you can get them for less than 100 bucks now. Get one like linksys that will also serve as a router so you can connect more than one computer to your dsl in the future.

You're not running anything like Gnutella, Morpheus, or KaZaa? No ICQ file sharing? If not, I'd throw a fit. Especially with your ISP.
|
Well if its not a sharing program and you dont have any "copy" of movie clips on your domains..i have a hard time to understand why you got that letter or email..
|
I'm inothent, inothent I tell you ...
|
it's slander and libel per say if they can't provide proof of you doing so.... which is lucky for you as they have DEEP pockets to sue for saying such false things against you if they are indeed mistaken about it.

Im not sure how DSL works in your area, but here on cable we dont have static IPs..Is it possible someone else had that IP and was doing this.
Your ISP will know if anyone was serving movies. They should be of better help. |
black ice is a cool name for a shitty product ;) get something better (zone alarm pro is excellent, norton is good too).

I, for one, can never think of you as an honest webmaster ever again. How's that for a start. :winkwink: |
lmao .. I don't even WATCH Star Trek .. and that was one of the TV shows i was suppose to be serving!
After many phone calls and I emails .. one demanding an apology and a retraction sent to the AMAA - I get this lame ass (but relieving email) I think I will hit them up for some free DSL over the heart palpitations it gave me. Dear Ms. (GRAMMA), After your response, we checked and found that your IP address was given in error. We have not sent anything to the Motion Picture Association. Please accept our apologies for any confusion or inconvenience this may have caused. If you have any questions, please contact Rob Koester at xxx-xxxx. Again, we apologize for this matter. -- well NO SHIT! |
Since when is serving/trading tv shows considered copyright infringement? They can suck my cock, i love the simpsons too much to stop. And all the dvd's arent out yet....
