SiMpLe 08-09-2006 04:26 PM

The cheese steak and Miami Vices were awesome! ( show kicked ass too hehe )

Scott McD 08-09-2006 04:29 PM

It sucked.

Ok i didn't go...

jact 08-09-2006 04:32 PM

I was honestly disappointed by the turnout, and the show floor wasn't even worth a visit but there was some serious business to be done and I had an awesome time. So glad I ended up going afterall.

Was awesome hanging out with you Chris, thanks again for lunch on Monday. Can't wait for Vegas!

aimeesweet 08-09-2006 04:34 PM

I had a fabulous time... and got some great biz done as well!

Thats the general consensus we're getting - just wanted to double check....

Big Red Machine 08-09-2006 04:44 PM

Seems all the shows are dwindling in numbers of people, but the number of shows is growing. The Diplomat is set up nice its great to just sit in the lobby and talk to people. Besides CCBills party getting rained out the weather was nice.

coolasafanman 08-09-2006 04:45 PM

Hey Chris, good seeing you face-to-face. The show was great - a little smaller than I expected, but very high quality and I met a ton of contacts. I'm glad you talked us into getting a booth at the last minute :thumbsup

I'm still going through my stack of biz cards, but if there's anyone I met at the show who's interested in chatting about our DVD rental program etc, feel free to hit me up at dennis at wantedlist.com or icq 169177917, or contact Tony.

MediaGuy 08-09-2006 04:49 PM

It was lovely warm and fuzzy and sweet and fulla good vibes. Something for someone everywhere, and we could still smoke in the exterior areas!!

Yeah more shows = less people at each show - but Internext is still the biggest. I got alot of feedback that more QUALITY people showed up and less people that you wouldnt want to waste time with decided to stay away.

myjah 08-09-2006 04:50 PM

Very productive show for me with both affiliates and programs alike. TONS of networking events and I enjoyed myself so much that I made it out every single night, though I usually take a night off. Overall, I felt it was a very successful show.

JFK 08-09-2006 04:52 PM

I had a great time and done a whole lot of business, Love the Fla Internext:thumbsup

Syl 08-09-2006 04:52 PM

I thought the show was going to have a lot more attendees as well, but I think it went great. Bigger doesn't neccesarily mean better. :) I met plenty of great people and had a chance to hang out with old and new friends. I enjoyed the close-feel of this show. It was great seeing you Chris and much thanks to all that put so much hard work into the show. :thumbsup

TheLegacy 08-09-2006 05:00 PM

avnchris I have a tremendous respect for you and the avn organization - but avn dropped the ball by allowing non-industry surfers into the event.

AVN needs to be aware of whats happening out there in the industry - you will find it hard to talk to a webmaster who was not upset by a known trouble maker, spammer and someone who has threatened and harassed many industry webmasters. When even warned by many - avn still ignored the problem. Please next time - verify the identity of each person requesting a pass that they honestly are in the industry.

Outside of that - the fl show was a success - and designed for networking

NETbilling 08-09-2006 05:07 PM

It was a great show all around for us. Yes, the floor was light but there was a ton of quality attendees and we did alot of business. Kudos to AVN for doing it right.

american pervert 08-09-2006 05:27 PM

i had a great time.. the only thing i would change and i told farley this was when you register a hotel room, have the ability to add more names to the room, not just the card holder. this makes checking in easier when you are not traveling in a group and have different arrival times

Deraj 08-09-2006 05:27 PM

I must concurr with all that said they got good biz done.. i had a fucking blast, and everyone within a five mile radius knew that ;)

Vittoria 08-09-2006 05:58 PM

I must say the show was a blast. So many wonderful times! Even though I hear the show was not so densly populated I still had a great time and got a lot done.

We at KSEX had a wonderful time, especially covering the yacht party.

Will be there again for sure.

WiredGuy 08-09-2006 06:02 PM

I think you should abandon the convention floor. Either the cabanas or the show floor. I got way more work done by the bar and cabanas than the floor had to offer. I also feel that the price of an attendee's badge is rather inflated at this point, it was worth the price when the show floor was large and took more than 1 day to cover, but when its under a 30 minute walk, I think the prices should reflect the show and floor size.

My opinion at least... :)
PS: The $15 per Mojito was rather excessive too.
WG

american pervert 08-09-2006 06:52 PM

yes, as far a what you paid for badge wise and what you got, i think more food on the show floor would be good

I don't care about the attendee registration price ... reduces the show to the people that really want to / can do business. but the drink prices there are rediculous. $14 pina coladas and $27 double grey goose redbulls.

Is this the last year of the 5 year contract with the diplomat?

I gropped you the last night! haha

Charles I agree with you. The cabanas and lobby were great places to be. Adding a walk to the convention floor almost spreads things out too much if you ask me.

Without the floor, you have the inside lobby or the outside cabanas.

I charged all my drinks to Brad Mitchell's room so I really wasn't effected by the drink costs.

Persignup Dustin 08-09-2006 07:53 PM

no actual poll thread format?

MikeVega 08-09-2006 08:47 PM

I've always loved the Miami show ... the pool area is beautiful and i haven't missed it in 4 years. A few things are starting make me lean towards not going next year. First is the cost .... I used to come with 3 guys and 2 models but at $300 a pass it's not worth bringing 5 people. The girls are there to promote their sites and flirt with the webmasters but I can do that at smaller shows much cheaper. I'm not cheap but with such a small show floor and the limited seminars I'll attend $300 to hangout at the pool and network is a bit much. top that with $10 drinks and it's over the top. the second thing is the past 2 years I've had problems with the hotel charging me for things I didn't buy or use ...Like 2 days of valet parking ($40) I didn't have a car?? I understand the security busting chops about the badges but twice I went down to swim and only brought my room key (with pussy cash on it) and they made me go up to my room for my pass. the pass is paper and I had no place to put it ... not a big deal but the room key should have been enough to get me out by the pool or back off the beach.

I've stayed at the hotel other then during the show and the service seemed much better and the food and drink prices were lower. I feel like they give us a lower quality of service and for one of the more expensive shows per night and that bothers me.

I'm on the fence about going next year and I'm even on the fence about the Vegas show. I can only go to so many shows a year (last year i went to 6 ... I want to cut that to 4) and I feel like i get more out of the smaller ones. for what I spend on those two shows i can cover 3 maybe 4 smaller shows.

on a 1-10 i give this one a 6 for me ..:2 cents:

SinisterStudios 08-09-2006 09:35 PM

We spent alot of money on a cabana, sponsoring a party and such to be very disappointed by the turnout. Yes there was alot of quality people there, but not even near the amount there should have been. Plus they made us book our rooms till monday to get the suites we wanted and then they opend the hotel up on sunday morning to everyone. I mean come on, there were kids all over the place on sunday, at a adult webmaster convention, and i cant be the only one thinking this was sooo damn wrong. Not to mention the prices of everything was throught the roof ($600 for a keg of beer at the cabana) , i think we will spend our money at other shows. Between the lousy AVN show in Jan and the miami show it seems AVN has lost the grip on the industry.

ronin 08-09-2006 09:45 PM

i thought it was ok but it's not like it used to be, times have changed....

jbrasco951 08-09-2006 09:49 PM

i think the show in miami went very well, no matter how the show floor looked. I think the show should be treated more like a gathering and go non-traditional. Still great venue, great show.

King of Queens 08-09-2006 10:18 PM

Well this was my first show & I'm definitely looking forward to Vegas.

I did a lot of business... (unprepared) & could of did a lot more.

I made some quality contacts as well.

For me it was great!

I'll be well prepared for January & all future events.

:thumbsup

LittleMack 08-09-2006 10:19 PM

Was a great time as always, show floor a little slow but was able to get deals and stuff done...the Florida show is my fav.

J$tyle$ 08-09-2006 11:02 PM

I thought this was a great show and just as important (for me) - it was a fantastic working vacation! I've enjoyed staying at the Diplomat every single year. It's one of my favorite places PERIOD ... and the weather was great - not overly hot/muggy and oppressive in the least this year!

It cost about 5K total for my wife and I including flights, cabs, badges and food and drinks. Sure, it was a little "spendy" but overall it was well worth the trip because the end result was we both got a ton of biz done.

For me personally, the immediate ROI is completely measurable and the future biz (based on new contacts) will be as well.

The fact that I'm in the content biz makes it a little easier to calculate my returns, for which I'm fortunate - maybe more fortunate than most.

There may have been less attendees this year in comparison to past years but there were more than enough quality people for me to talk biz with. I set 6 meetings up in advance and took all of them on the first day. 4 of the 6 were conducted poolside which was great. The other 2 were up on the show floor which was cool too. I spent about an hour up there on both friday and saturday and (although it wasn't slammed wall to wall with attendees) it looked like everyone was getting business done there too.

My guesstimate is that the show was 2/3's the size of last year, but again FOR ME - it was big enough!

The cabanas were great poolside - and it seemed to me that business was getting done all around. Everywhere I looked from poolside to the lobby to the bars and resturaunts - there were mini meetings going on.

Obviously, I can't speak for anyone else - and I know that many others spent WAY MORE than I did to attend and bring 'their people" ... but I think the show was a success!

:2 cents:

Thanks to AVN for providing this yearly event for me to have an enjoyable vacation, get a tax deduction and make money while doing so! :winkwink:

:thumbsup :thumbsup
