Our Stay at Westin Diplomat SUCKED

When we checked in on thursday everything seemed fine. it was MikeVega, Juicy and myself in the room. Juicy took a shower and there was this nasty smell coming from the bathroom. We ignored it and then later on in the day we smelled it again, Seemed anytime someone took a shower this nasty smell came from the Shower. We called down to the front desk and they sent a guy up to the room. He sprayed this spray and said that should solve it. Well the next morning when I took a shower the smell was even worse, So i called and complained again, 30 minutes later a differnt maintance guy shows up and says the spray should solve it. Thats when i told him the guy yesterday already sprayed it and it made it worse. So he tells me "Well this spray is the only thing we have it if you dont like it you can call and complain to a mangager" Well thats exactly what I did I called and complained, thats when I was told that all the showers were tiled wrong and that the showers have mildew and mold growing underneath them and the only thing they can do besides use that spray is break all the tile and redo the shower, BUT that can't be done until we check out.

If you know you have Mold/mildew growing in your shower's maybe you shouldnt be selling rooms but closed for REMODELING.

Just my :2 cents: :2 cents:

Eeew that's nasty. The fact that they knew about the problem, but hadn't corrected it isn't acceptable.

I'd also think that would be a health risk. Wonder if the health department down there knows? :winkwink:

Called and complained to there corporate office, the manager emailed me back and doesnt wanna do anything about it, saying they offered to move us on the last night, which was 8 hours before we checked out. Seems the next thing to do is contact my Credit Card company about this.

mikesouth 08-09-2006 11:43 AM

dontcha love high priced resort hotels who have a captive audience....

and just what did you pay for that room? too much I'll wager

s9ann0 08-09-2006 11:44 AM

that is a shit hotel anyways without those problems I'd rather stay a few miles down the road in a motel for $80 / night

lesbodojo 08-09-2006 11:50 AM

Oh shit that's fucked up. Did they offer to give you a better room? or knock some of the price off?

cool1 08-09-2006 12:10 PM

I would call thier local health department office and complain

That's exactly what i did. Stayed at the Ramamda Hollywood Beach Resort and enjoyed my stay there. Actually liked my room better than some of the ones I saw at the Diplomat. Had a stove, full size refrig, and stuff and was cheaper. Staff was extremely friendly and every time I came in late at night the security guys were always quite friendly with me.

Can mold make my family sick?

Exposure to mold can cause health effects in some people. The most common effects are allergic responses from breathing mold spores. These allergic responses include hay fever or asthma and irritation of the eyes, nose, throat or lungs. We usually cannot say how much mold is too much as our reactions to allergens can vary greatly depending on individual sensitivity. Allergic responses can come from exposure to dead as well as to living mold spores. Therefore, killing mold with bleach and or other disinfectants may not prevent allergic responses.

Less common effects of mold exposure include infections and toxic effects. Serious infections from living molds are relatively rare and occur mainly in people with severely suppressed immune systems. Many types of molds may produce toxins but only under certain growth conditions. Toxic effects have been reported from eating moldy grain, but evidence is weak that breathing mold spores in buildings causes toxic effects.
What are common symptoms of mold exposure?

Allergy and irritation are the most common symptoms of mold exposure. Although symptoms will vary, the most common symptoms seen in people exposed to mold indoors include:

* Nasal and sinus congestion
* Eye irritation, such as itchy, red, watery eyes
* Respiratory problems, such as wheezing and difficulty breathing
* Cough
* Throat irritation
* Skin irritation, such as a rash
* Headache

Who is most at risk for health problems from mold exposure?

Exposure to high amounts of mold is not healthy for anyone, so obvious mold growth in the home should be cleaned up. However, some individuals may be more susceptible to health problems from mold exposure. These include:

* Individuals with current respiratory sensitivities (e.g., allergies, asthma, or emphysema)
* Individuals with a compromised immune system (e.g., HIV/AIDS infection, organ transplant patients, or chemotherapy patients)

I've worked in the hotel business for several years, and let me tell you man it doesnt matter if its the fucking hilton or the whore motel in the ghetto... shit is gross, they know about it, and either dont care, or are too stupid to know how to fix it...

for example the past 2 hotels i have worked at were nice ocean front hotels at the beach, and charged $200-$350 per night, and the top floor rooms leak when it rains! so what do they do? they pay for a new roof to be put on, and that doesnt solve the problem so 2 years later they pay for another new roof to be put on, and that doesnt solve the problem

its like durr why dont you fucking hire someone to figure out what the problem is since obviously its not the roof

:(

the worlds incompetence drives me insane :(

sicone 08-09-2006 03:30 PM

That's nasty and no they shouldnt be renting out rooms they know have this problem

fl_prn_str 08-09-2006 04:50 PM

Travelocity....AAA Rates the Westin as a 4 star hotel......wonder if they are aware of this?

Axzar 08-09-2006 06:31 PM

When I was in college, I was fucking my girl in the shower when the whole wall of tiles fell on us. Consider yourself lucky. You could have been seriously injured.

Satan 08-09-2006 10:20 PM

Im glad to hear other peope had a good time

Tanker 08-09-2006 10:46 PM

Mold and Mildew is bad for your health and they know that the showers have it thats pretty fucked up

Gaybucks 08-10-2006 12:45 AM

The hotel is owned by the Pipefitters Union of somewhere in the midwest, and they've hired some general manager who is a complete piece of shit to manage it.

I absolutely do not understand why AVN continues to use that piece of shit property when everyone has been complaining for 3+ years about how awful it is. When no one on the staff gives a shit, you can bet the *reason* they don't give a shit is because that attitude comes down from the top.

Maybe if they fired the GM and replaced the entire staff with people that care, they'd have a chance of having a decent place. But in the meantime, AVN really needs to look elsewhere for next year.

Most big corporate companies don't care unless there is no money coming in, if the money comes in each month, they can care less how the place is run

Tdog 08-11-2006 05:41 AM

Maybe the local Health Inspector would like to hear about that mold.

I stayed down at the Ramada Beach Resort also. Very nice rooms and nice staff just like you said. Only thing I didn't like was the 4pm check in time, which we was never told about when we booked the room.

BT 08-11-2006 07:55 AM

its the old hotel that has all the issues. the new side which is the north tower is ok

KRL 08-11-2006 08:00 AM

Florida has mold issues. Always been that way even at the very top end hotels.

Cash 08-11-2006 02:21 PM

I'm glad I stayed at the Ambassador Resort Hotel, half a mile walk from the Westin Diplomat, and much cheaper :)
