GFY Gun Owners or Gun Enthusiasts
Anyone here have any experience with the Smith & Wesson Model 500 line? Just saw my first one in person last night and the first thing that came to mind was GOOD GOD, those things are monsters! The .500 caliber round gives a whole new meaning to the words "hand cannon".
For those of you that are not familiar with the S&W .500 caliber, it's basically a .50 caliber round that's been upgraded and enlarged to a Magnum round. Here are a few pics: http://www.shootingtimes.com/handgun...ster_1103A.jpg The new .500 S&W Magnum dwarfs other big-bore cartridges that are currently available for production-manufactured revolvers. http://www.shootingtimes.com/handgun...ster_1103D.jpg The Model 500's cylinder holds five rounds and is not counterbored, which shows the designers' confidence in the strength of the case design and the cylinder. To put it more into perspective for people that are only familiar with the standard handgun calibers: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...comparison.jpg The .500 S&W Magnum (right) compared to a .44 Magnum (middle) and .357 Magnum (left). :eek2 Just wait until you see what these things are capable of... NICE!!! |
that's a huge gun. would be fun to shoot, but definitely a handful.
my normal day to day carry gun is a Kimber Ultra Carry II with a +P SILVER 145 GR. 1350 FPS/ 587 FTLBS GLASER cartirdge as my basic ammo. it can start to make your hands sore after a little bit of target shooting. usually i don't target shoot with the glasers, but i have tested them at the range and they are a hot little round. i couldn't imagine the S&W 500. |
i love these glasers from corbon though.
they have a little polymer cap in the top of hollow point and a magnum load worth of powder. http://www.shootingindustry.com/Ftr0406b/Corbon.jpg gotta love any ammunition that says on the box: "The unique Pow'RBall Design aids in high energy transfer that produces superior stopping power. Pow'RBall will not get plugged by heavy clothing and can easily penetrate windsheild glass or light sheet metal." :1orglaugh http://www.carttonic.com/users/corbo...s/gelatin1.jpg |

Smack gave me a clipload of those glaser 45's....definately bad fuckin bass |

I don't often carry, but when I do I have a Kimber Tactical Custom II (usually w/ Federal Hydra-Shok JHP - 165 GR.) that I guess would qualify as my primary "carry" weapon; somewhat large to be considered a carrying gun, but you get used to it. :1orglaugh :winkwink: |
