GFY Design Contest - Let's look forward to next year!
 

Let the GFY Design Contest end now, and stop this talk about a new contest.

I for one will not enter this new contest. And from what i've heard from the other contestants, i don't think many of them willl enter it either.

I would like to see who exactly it is who want this new contest to take place now. Please post your names here so we can really see if this whole ordeal is worth taking on again!

Let's declare the GFY Design Contest officially over and get on with business!

I don't think the competition was good for nothing though. Now at least we know how the contest shouldn't be managed. Take notice of what went wrong this time and post some ideas on how next years contest should be managed.

you know I'll be in it if it's next year, next week, or tomorrow.... I know quite a few are probly wishing I'd drop out of it completely and never look back, but I'm gonna disappoint them. I'm not goin' anywhere.... :winkwink:

Does anyone have any thoughts on how next years competition should be managed or was this thread just a waste of time?

well, ya know Jim, I really thought I had covered prety much every base.... but I obviously didn't... then Lens took it over and there were zero questions to what he posted, so it seemed that it was pretty solid... but again, obviously it wasn't.... at this point I really don't think there's any way to cryproof this thing..... no matter how well it's put together, no matter how well it's managed.... somebody will bitch about it. I regret ever coming up with this thing.

All you have to do is make sure ANYBODY having anything to do with the building of the actual contest and rules ISN'T a contestant...that's the only problem I think people had, *Most* People agree the sites that are at the top deserve to be at the top BUT there is a big differenece between 1st and 3rd with peoples pride... I think we would all get a lil pissy if Lens gave the next erashercash car to RAM...brings up questions thats all :)

ya know..... that's the funny part..... none of the top five guys are bitching at all.... all of us have been happy with the last TWO sets of results.... it's the guys at the bottom of the list that are doing all the whining. :winkwink:

What about the idea of limiting voting to GFY registered members only? And make sure everyone has to log in with username and password to vote!

1/ No design rules (anything goes~flash,gifs,1 tour,5 tours,doesn't matter.
2/ All entries go straight to a pre selected panel of judges,if you have a problem with any of the judges don't enter.
3/ No prizes,the top 3 designs would get auctioned off in a 48hr bidding war.
4/ If these rules aren't to hard then maybe we could make this a quarterly or a half yearly event rather than just once a year.

problem #1: Someone will cry because they don't understand this.

problem #2: Someone will cry because they'll say the judges were bought, they know it, and now they can't participate because you said if there's a problem don't enter.
major problem #3: Someone will cry because they either can't/won't/don't want to auction off their site and you can't make them and therefore it is unfair.
and finally, problem #4: now you're making them commit to a contest 4 times a year that they have to sacrifice their time to and if they can't do it cuz they're busy and everyone else gets to, then that will be unfair.

I like the idea of this.. except for no 1. it would be cool after this to see what people could do with the same set of content and set of urls to choose from.. less whining if evryone starts out with the same stuff.. and the sites then won't be for existing sponsors or couldn't ahve been designed previously..
either way I don't care..

from what I've seen in all of this thing.... there is only one rule that needs to be thoroughly enforced:

if you fucking cry when it's over, you automatically get your tour thrown right the fuck out of the whole damn thing.

other than that...... anything else goes.

can we make that rule #1?
