Photoshop Graphics Destortion?

Ok im working on a logo/top banner for my new site. It looks decent when im finished with it in photoshop, but then it just gets distorted when the file is saved for web.

This distortion is horrible. What the fuck am i doing wrong?

I noticed that usually the distortion is intensified when i use effects, like the light blue behind the yellow letters.

play with the setting for gif, jpg, etc... # of colors, quality level...

this on of the 'save for web' window itself, do a 4up and you can set each window to different settings and compare

Here is a tutorial I found regarding optimization for the web

Should help you out

don't save it as web.. do custom, move down for 256 until you start to see distortion. If that doesnt work save it as a jpg.

It's loss from the .jpg format. Either increase the .jpg quality or go with a .gif. With the huge contrast between the blue and yellow I would definitely go with a .gif file.

It gives me several options, but all the ones that look decent are like 80k & thats just too freaking big.

BuckNaked 06-13-2002 04:58 PM

experiment with it as a gif as well, you won't get the jpg artifacting as a gif, it may pixellate the camera, but not very noticably. or just kick the quality up to 50-55 like alias says

i had that same problem too,,, what sucks is that .jpg files can't be transparent,,,, i see this problem happening to me when i make a file with a drop shadow,,, sometimes when i uncheck the drop shadow it comes alot clearer

pr0 06-13-2002 05:35 PM

Aight well i think i got it bling blingin now using the gif format

starscream 06-13-2002 05:48 PM

if its for a logo then why don't you slice it into 2 pieces. The camera can be in .jpg with the blue background and the text should be in .gif with a transparent background all sitting in a blue cell.

if its a banner to be passed around then your last attempt was good.
