because they're not a conventional army, like you said... they're guerilla fighters...during the 6 years after Israel left Lebanon in 2000, they got a shitload of weapons and help from syria and iran, and today they only need to get out of a bunker for a few seconds, launch a rocket, and get back inside... and that's what they do...

how many hezbollah members are dead by now? 400? 500?
how many are now alive in israel's hands? 50 or so?
how many lebanese civilians have died because of them?
how many years will it take for lebanon to become what it was before this war?

Even if you crush Hizbollah in lebanon (which turns out eternally more difficult than the "few days" Israel thought it would take....) this clumsy Israeli reaction is causing huge support for Hizbollah and Hamas allover the muslim world turning moderate muslims in fighters, causing more hate against Israel all over the world and in the end ensuring the survival and even growth and success of Hizbollah and Hamas.
Israel killed 1.000 Lebanes civilians so far. Do you think their children, fathers, mothers, etc will just accept that? The images of burnt children by what you call "civilized people" are being broadcast all over the world.

No, it isn't because they're afraid. Its because they have too much to lose. Iran is on very thin ice as is, they aren't going to jump into a war when they have a puppet with nothing to lose (Hezbollah) willing to fight instead. And Syria... they aren't much of a match up. How many times have they threatened to intervene now? Again, they have too much to lose.
