New York.

Sly 08-07-2006 06:31 PM

The United States has a lot more options for "powerful cities" as opposed to the countries you mentioned. We also have a much larger population.

Washington for political power. New York for money. Then you could mention several other cities for their military might. San Diego, for example, has a pretty large military population.

Deputy Chief Command 08-07-2006 06:35 PM

hmm, there are many important cities in every country

you seem like a dumbass, for every country you just gave the best known TOURIST city ,

Los Angeles, CA.

California is the World's 5th largest economy.

1. U.S.
2. Japan
3. Germany
4. United Kingdom
5. California
6. France

OTerror 08-07-2006 08:19 PM

Miami, FL :thumbsup

Pornwolf 08-07-2006 08:20 PM

You are naming the capitals.
Russia has wonderful city St. Petetrsburg and it as important as Moscow.

I dont think there are any important cities here. We could blow any one off the face of the map and life could continue.

The London foreign exchange market is the largest in the world, with a daily turnover of 31% of the global market - more than New York and Tokyo combined.

I read something to the effect that over 50% of major U.S. corporations have a headquarters in Dallas.

For every person the city or town or village where he lives or was born is the most important place in the world.

PHOENIX!!!!!................is at least the hottest one!! :)

pocketkangaroo 08-07-2006 09:39 PM

New York because it's the financial capital of the world.

You'd have to give some credence to some cities out west that handle major internet companies (Silicon Valley). Chicago and Denver are huge travel hubs and DC is the capital. Tough to name the most important.

Mr. Soul 08-07-2006 09:48 PM

New York is currently the most "important" city on the planet.

Wall Street has a whole hell of a lot more power than Washington could ever dream of having.

SirMoby 08-07-2006 10:18 PM

NY. It's not the financial capital of the world but it has enough to buy all the power that's in DC.

Say what???

Washington DC controls the entire US economy, controls the spending of $2.4 Trillion a year, controls the US Nuclear arsenal, controls the most powerful and destructive military, controls the creation of laws that impact the entire planet, controls the most powerful surveillance network in the world, and on and on.

NYC is important, but its a pebble compared to the importance and power of DC which is the size of an elephant in comparison.

notabook 08-07-2006 10:27 PM

New York seems to be a forerunner. I think a close second is Alligator, MS.

Aquaman 08-07-2006 10:27 PM

Springfield

Ya, but California by itself, is 5th... I am sure it is what helps make US #1. :thumbsup

And I didn't name US first, that is the actual list of countries and their economies world ranking, in order.

Give me a break. The people who pick the US government live in New York. The peolpe who decide when and where the US military gets used live in New York. The people who decide what happens with the US economy live in New York. There is no Washington DC without Wall Street, money makes the world go round. Do you really think that the people we call the administration have more power in this country than the banks and major coporations?

Maybe in 1870.

I agree with you. Although I am not an american, I think Washington is the most important.

The problem is that New York is very well known around the world. Probably the best known city in USA, for us foreigners.

But, it looks so far, that there is no such thing as "most important city in usa". :)

Supz 08-07-2006 11:03 PM

judging by the cities you named, they are capitals, so then ours must be Washington D.C.

No one has as much power as the United States Government. No banks. No corporations.

tiger 08-08-2006 12:22 AM

There is no beating Los Angeles or California for that matter, 5th largest economy in the world.
