Is a 5.15 an HR Minimum Wage Earner.....

Better off than a Cuban?

If a Cuban is better off in Cuba...why are so many risking their lives to get to America? I'll let you ponder that for bit while I have dinner...a dinner which costs more than what most Cubans make in a few months of working.

Because one of those "grass is greener on the other side" illusions? :winkwink:

They have relatives in Florida, with money, who will set them up?

Why do people think that material possessions make someone better off? I could be happy alone in the wilderness for years just surviving. Who give a shit if they drive 1950's cars, fuck money, freedom is a perspective.

lol, and their relatives came to the U.S. and earned what? Most likely minimum wage, but they worked their asses off and many of them made good on that "American Dream" that's only a myth if you're too lazy to work for it.

When I was 20 years old I quit college and took a minimum wage job to help my family out. I worked three jobs, 16 hours a day, 7 days a week. Guess what, if you work hard enough, smart enough, you get ahead and you're no longer a minimum wage worker. I paid off my house when I was 30 years old, I have no debt, and if I want I can retire at 40.

If tomorrow I started at 0 all over again...I would still pick the U.S. and its minimum wage over Cuba because I know if I work hard enough I can realize something way more than minimum wage.

Now, I'm sure all the Cubans in Cuba would agree with you if they could read this post, however, since many don't have internet access because of cost, government regulations, etc...I doubt you'll get much support from them on gfy, lol.

I sort of like the whole American Dream ideal. And I believe it and will defend it. The key ingredient is desire and perseverance. Not many have those.

I was reading interviews with a couple Cubans this week that I thought were pretty interesting. These people were happy with free health care, friendly neighbors, little work, a "safe" society, and good culture even though it meant they barely made enough money to put food on their plate. That concept is totally bizarre to me, but I can see how it would possibly be appealing to someone who grew up in a Communist society. To me, that whole thought process is against "free will". And "free will" is very important to me.

I grew up knowing my neighbors, had good health care, had great "culture" within my family, had a good family, was very safe, and food was always on our plate with more in the cabinet. We didn't have a lot of money, but did ok. Through hard work, free will, and the American Dream... I still have all of the above and then some, as does my whole family. Sacrifice does pay off.

Yappo.
