http://www.notebookreview.com/assets/11744.jpg got a new notebook (if pics above don't load, blame the people I hotlink from, Im lazy to take pics of mine, it looks the same anyway) Model: Toshiba Satellite P100-275 Intel core duo 1.6ghz x 2 1.5gb ram 80gb hdd 5400rpm 17" screen, 1440x900 onboard graphics ------------------ battery life approx 3h ------------------ Now to the issue at hand. Stay away from "Gaming" laptops with dedicated graphics cards. My previous laptop was like that and I was very insecure about getting a new laptop with onboard graphics. But got this one cheap (cheap as in $1200usd, but I'm not from the states and you prolly can buy it there for like $800) The difference between this and the previous laptop is huge. This one barely turns on the fans. It's silent! That's a huge issue coz if you've owned a laptop you probably know how loud the tiny fans inside can get when they start spinning at 7000rpm. They get louder than a deskop. So, laptops with any type of dedicated graphic card suck up the battery in like 1hour. I tested mine by playing a HD video (1280x720) flick, encoded to DivX, ran it without a hitch. Shouldn't be a prob once HD videos become mainstream. It has Harman-Kardon speakers, that beat a small deskop sound solution I have on one of my computers (logitech z3) btw for those interested, the motherboard is using intel i945GM chipset. Higly recommended! :thumbsup :thumbsup :thumbsup |
Nice notebook, getting mine soon

You can read a related review on these Toshiba series of notebooks here:
http://www.notebookreview.com/defaul...te+P 100+P105 One major issue I have on this laptop is that the right SHIT key is small! Tiny! That bothers me because I mainly use this shift key. And the arrors are also tiny. It's a huge slip imo. I'd rather see them sacrifice the numeric pad for better arrors, shift and enter key placement this is also cool addon on the touch pad: http://www.notebookreview.com/assets/11730.jpg |
Chris: the speakers ain't at fault. It's the codecs installed on the machine.
Go to this site: free-codecs.com and download the Kazaa codec pack (the full one). Install it using the "Playback only" profile (not extreme playback). It will fix your sound issues. Uninstall tho all codecs u had previously. |

Toshiba makes great laptops.

nice man :thumbsup

Well sure but most people considering a gaming laptop would do so for actual gaming, and for games you'd need a dedicated graphics card for sure.
