Got my new Toshiba Notebook today

Too bad I won't have time to play with it until I get back. Will have to just leave it in the box so I am not tempted.

Ice 08-04-2006 11:52 AM

Little things . . .like being able to have 2GB of RAM as opposed to 1 with most of the others

theS2O 08-04-2006 12:03 PM

madawgz 08-04-2006 12:06 PM

This is going to become my primary computer so when I leave town for conventions or vacation I will be able to have all my data with me all the time.

Even got LoJack for it.

Did it overheat?

I gave mine to my dad. I used it every day though and had to get something replaced because it overheated. Only happened once and I never used it as much after so I don't know if it would have done it again.

I had the overheating issue with a Fujitsu first generation P4 3.0. Beautiful display on it though. It weighed 10 lbs and could fry eggs. Went through 3 hard drives before it became a paper weight.

Got the Toshiba Satellite A105 now. Great notebook... fast with a beautiful screen. Only complaint is the fingerprint reader is a bit touchy.

Congrats Baddog :thumbsup

Cool. I loved my Toshiba Notebook. With the exception of the heating issue, it was tops. I'm sure baddog will enjoy his.

baddog 08-04-2006 12:35 PM

It has to beat the Dell I am using now :)

Touchy in that it won't let you in, or it lets anyone in?

How did you get around that issue?

Touchy as in it won't let me using the reader. It worked for the initial set up though. It will say I attempted to swipe my finger either too fast or too slow. I haven't had a chance to check the settings to see if there's a way to adjust the sensitivity of it.

There's a password override, which is what I use for access. You'll be prompted to create it when you do your initial set it up. Let me know if you have the same issues as me with the reader :)

This is my baby. Toshiba Qosmio G-20. Would recommend this to anyone that wants the power of a desktop but the convenience of a laptop.

You are tempting me to open the box to at least see what it looks like . . . I must resist, I must resist.

woj 08-04-2006 01:17 PM

why would you need 2 gigs of ram on a laptop? unless you are doing some photo or video editing or some other apps requiring ton of ram, difference between 1 and 2 gigs is pretty much unnoticeable....

AdultInsider Cloner 08-04-2006 01:24 PM

wow, there is no way I could leave that in the box =p

Vitasoy 08-04-2006 01:44 PM

I guess you missed it earlier . . . This is going to become my primary computer so when I leave town for conventions or vacation I will be able to have all my data with me all the time.

It is not "just a laptop."

trust me, every time I walk past it I am tempted, but I need to finish packing the bike first. Then I need to shower and eat.

If there is time after I will at least open the box . . . maybe start uploading the LoJack and security suite.

misty_dayz 08-04-2006 02:49 PM

I have a Toshiba. Sadly it is just over a year old and in the bottom cupboard never to be used again. The same problem happened to it over and over again and Toshiba would fix but not replace. Then the one year warranty expired and they refused to fix the problem anymore.

You can upgrade the ram on any laptop....

Most of the other big brands also offer laptops with 2GB ram as default (Dell, HP, Asus, LG, Acer, Samsung,etc...)

Congrats on the new buy tho, hope you have more luck than I had (my had some problems and sent back, now am trying to figth to get my money back...fucking joke)

DutchTeenCash 08-04-2006 03:58 PM

looks pretty amazing - dont need that but it would be nice to have a laptop that renders vids

Multitasking...what good is it to have a dual-core cpu if you don't take proper advantage of it?

With "little" programs pilling up it does add up ;)

When are you going to learn that no one cares what you think?

pocketkangaroo 08-04-2006 07:01 PM

I have to admit I'm bitter when Toshiba dumped the option to have the little ball curson instead of the touch pad for mouse navigation. For some reason that was always my favorite way of navigating.

Woj, how can you say the difference in 1 or 2gb or RAM is unnoticeable? If you're running a few larger applications you can notice very easily. Not to mention that I wouldn't bother with Vista on 1gb.
