When should you buy your own server?

At what point do you buy your own server anybody host their own sites?

just do it from the start. A dedicated box gives you WAY more room to grow

Agreed. Makes you work a little harder too so you can cover the expense without losing any money. :2 cents:

We have hosted our own stuff from the beginning. When our site goes down I cannot take the chance the hosting company is away on a family outing. Some hosting companies are ran out of an apartment.

Alot come and go.

Buy your own server and sale some space like they do. Make sure you have high upload and download speeds.

Then gradually move up. Especiall with Verizon running fibre optic line.

Fibre Optic will be at my house Sept 1st So I will be Able to Add Another rack of servers at my house along with the servers at the office.

I will probably run another channel from my house or use the line at my house for the database server. Which will make things lightning fast.

Nice what servers are you running?

With the price of servers at the bottom end around $700 you are running a very small operation to not have one.

I would say when you have enough content to fill a 300 Gig disk or running enough BW to get a better deal with your own server. Buying the server should work out cheaper.
