Is BASEBALL still the All-American pastime?
Just saw parts of Ken Burns' documentary on baseball. I mean, it has a great history and everything but I think FOOTBALL is the new all-american pastime. Football's viewership keeps growing and the Super Bowl is Huuuuuge.
What do you think? |
Baseball is no longer the great American pastime - football is religion in many parts of the US. Baseball has lost the youth of America - go look at a ballpark and it will usually be empty - kids are on their computers or video game consoles - and playing soccer. football and basketball. Less and less kids are attending major league baseball games. And when it comes to black kids - it is shocking the decline of black kids playing the game - the blacks you will be seeing in the major leagues will mostly be Carribbean - black kids want to play basketball or football.

Baseball isn't even close to football, especially the NFL. Even College Football is more popular than baseball. At its lowest point, baseball even fell slightly behind the NBA when Jordan was reigning. Now its second again behind football, but waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay behind.

Baseball shot itself in the foot when it had its last big strike. I was a huge fan in the 80's. I stopped watching completely in the 90's.

Id assume it was football now.. hell maybe even basketball (if not its a close second)
Between NFL/NCAA/Arena/AFL2/NFLE and the Global Junior program they have its world wide now football is constantly growing and growing. You see kids starting football at an earlier age than baseball... baseball, more & more I find is on a huge decline |
Not any more.

I believe they coined that phrase before there was the NFL. Not sure why people keep using it.

The strike definitely made baseball fans sick? I was a huge baseball fan most of my life until all those fucking douchebags started up shit again. After that I lost complete interest in baseball, haven?t watched a full game since.

Another thing to consider is that NFL teams play far fewer games than in the NBA or MLB. I don't think the NFL would be as popular if each team played 4 games a week for six months.
