Wysiwyg editors sucks, but the best of them is undisputable - Dreamweaver

Ice 08-01-2006 12:55 PM

IMO there are none really. Lean code from scratch and your pages will be much cleaner.

No editors ... do it by hand. It's cleaner and you'll learn way more!

But if you have to use one ... Dreamweaver.

Yappo.

Dreamweaver is the shit .

IF you know how to use it .. it's as clean as hand coding ( save their js functions, those can be bulky )
IF you DON't know how to use it .. your page is full of extra code and shit for nothing .

If you're trying to code something to hand off to a designer , he should know how to clean the code up anyway .. and if not , hire a new designer ;)

oh .. and for the LOVE of god ,
Don't use FRONTPAGE!

Try NVU -- it's free http://www.nvu.com/index.php

You can also try the Firefox extension Codetech: http://www.codetch.com/

Dreamweaver - Build it and use the COMMAND > CLEAN UP HTML function ;)

The only really good WYSIWYG editor I have found is Dreamweaver MX or Dreamweaver 8; but the best thing is to know your code; learn html first, then use DW to save time, remembering to clean up html function as well as the validator to clean up errors. WYS is not always equal to WYG, but DW gets closer than any of the other editors of its kind that I have seen. DW by itself, without knowing html you may end up having a lot of errors and messes; DW combined with a good basic knowledge of code you can make clean pages/sites in a lot less time than it takes to hand code from scratch. I use DW8 with a combination of split view (code/design) when building pages, but also use CuteHTML as a plain text editor quite a bit as well.
