I drink racist soda (pic)
I was in South Beach for my birthday over the weekend and picked this up when I ventured into Little Haiti. It makes me giggle every time I open the fridge, so I haven't even bothered to drink it yet. :1orglaugh

According to some observers like Dave Chappelle, there is a RACIAL/CULTURAL difference re beverage labeling: https://youtube.com/watch?v=GlT2yDnbsO0

I wish that drink was available here, I bet the darkies would really dig it.

I don't get it? Why is a black child eating watermelon considered racist?

See: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...ermelon_04.jpg and http://www.ferris.edu/jimcrow/picaninny/more/031.jpg The picaninny1 was the dominant racial caricature of Black children for most of this country's history. They were "child coons," miniature versions of Stepin Fetchit (see the section on the coon caricature). Picaninnies had bulging eyes, unkempt hair, red lips, and wide mouths into which they stuffed huge slices of watermelon. They were themselves tasty morsels for alligators. They were routinely shown on postcards, posters, and other ephemera being chased or eaten. Picaninnies were portrayed as nameless, shiftless natural buffoons running from alligators and toward fried chicken. Source In my case, its just a picture of a funny soda that's in my refrigerator. Thus ends your Negro Education Special for the day. |

read reply No 42 although after more than 10 years in Africa I haven't seen a black person eating watermelon, neither have I seen a black person buying a watermelon, but eating chicken - that's another story |
