Question for those in the UK

WTF is a "geezer"?

I am listening to a great band called "The Streets" and he uses the term geezer in every song.

Can you explain this to a clueless Canadian?

Phoenix 07-31-2006 10:23 AM

geezer is an old person is it not?

xxxfeetxxx 07-31-2006 10:24 AM

Nope it means bloke. Otherwise known as a man. :) Geezer is a term often used by Londoners.

:1orglaugh

What a great word that is

A geezer is pretty much an older guy who is kinda odd

(and I may live in Canada, but I was born and raised in England :winkwink: )

GFingaz 07-31-2006 10:28 AM

ahaha, im an english boy myself. A geezer is anyone who fancies them self as a bit of a jack-the-lad. Someone who is popular, always socialising, dodgy deals etc.

This explanation is correct, all others above are not accurate.

GFingaz 07-31-2006 11:09 AM

bullshit. A bloke is a man, a geezer is a type of person. Prince William is a bloke, he is not a geezer.

joshll 07-31-2006 11:10 AM

a Geezer is a random man that you do not know and are in no fit state to call him or insult him :)
like me calling TexasDreams a Geezer would be an example :winkwink:

Well all UK people said the same thing. Only Canadians thought it referred to an old man.

Sarah_Jayne 07-31-2006 11:33 AM

'dude' with less respect

North Americans use it like 'old geezer'.

Kimo 07-31-2006 11:36 AM

on the east coast in the usa geezer = old man and skeezer = coke slut

Brad Gosse 07-31-2006 11:36 AM

Here it is in context.

"On the streets I'm just a geezer, gotta make ends meet yeah"
"Geezers need excitement"

elartist 07-31-2006 11:36 AM

the streets are great :D i love they too :D

trust those of us in the UK...it means bloke/dude ..not a top guy but a guy

Lee 07-31-2006 11:48 AM

Its all of the above. Perhaps in times gone by it would have referred to an elder guy usually of the working classes. Nowadays its a more generic term for a man usually used by the working classes ;) Except now with the younger generation it also means a guy that is a bit of a jack the lad. So in essence all of the above were correct, you just need to find the context which I suspect is the third example in this instance.

I don't get the hype over Lilly Allen but I have always said her dad is a guy I don't want to meet in a dark alley.

I wouldn't want that sour cock anywhere. All he does is spout negative bile.
