A little R/C jet flying this weekend

Got a chance to get out yesterday and fly some jets.

Test flew a few planes for some guys and got to put some flight time on my F-22 Raptor.

On board telemetry says I hit 187mph at one point.

Took some video

The F-22 holds 100oz of jet fuel and I burn through it in 5 minutes and 45 seconds

ContentSHOOTER 07-31-2006 09:03 AM

Really amazing, how expensive would one of those be?:thumbsup

JohnV 07-31-2006 09:03 AM

That is very cool...nice landing btw :-)

fetishblog 07-31-2006 09:06 AM

well it depends on the plane and turbine combo

the first plane you see in the video is a plane designed by my friend and built himself with a laser cutter.
All parts needed to fly puts this plane in the $3500 range.

My F22 on the otherhand with all parts and paint and misc. items puts it in the $7500 range.

I have seen some with over $25,000 of equiptment in them.

pornguy 07-31-2006 09:09 AM

Ugly bird, but some of the fancy ones will not fly that fast.

JFK 07-31-2006 09:12 AM

Nice toys :thumbsup

CamsLord 07-31-2006 09:13 AM

that looks fun, might need to check out some rc planes :)

The first one? Yeah it's ugly as hell, but its a proof of concept.
The design will change to prove other wing theories

xclusive 07-31-2006 09:13 AM

Were you wearing your pocket protector ya fucking nerd:) J/K I plan on getting one when I move back to kentucky. I have a few acres there that would be perfect to fly these on.

Wow that is a quick ride. You need to make an RC inflight refueler.

Itchy 07-31-2006 09:55 AM

dam thats a cool R/C !!

Well I have some external fuel pods I could hook up but thats only good for another 4 minutes or so.

Actually 5 minutes at over 150mph kinda wears you out anyway.

Vitasoy 07-31-2006 11:14 AM

Damn those things are wicked

How many did you crash before getting to where you can take off and land like that?

Doctor Dre 07-31-2006 11:26 PM

Bird 07-31-2006 11:33 PM

I flew tons of prop planes before I got into jets. Since 90 or 91
It was an easy transition.

But I have crashed a few jets

Crynos 08-04-2006 03:46 PM

Damn, thats awesome

Jaii 08-04-2006 03:48 PM

I have always wanted get one of those, but i never think about it.. maybe i'll go grab one

Jaii 08-04-2006 03:49 PM

repost sorry

BJ 08-04-2006 04:02 PM

I fly a seminole all the time and its crazy how many rc airpots i've come accross that are visible from 3000 feet. I didn't realize how big the hobby was. Im sure someone is working on an affordable rc that can fly instrument approaches.

Shok 08-04-2006 04:10 PM

uav's can

BJ 08-04-2006 04:24 PM

Im also curious, do rc's have to worry about airspace?

Shok 08-04-2006 06:18 PM

yes there are rules.

no flying within 3 miles of an airport unless you have special permission.

some clubs must stay under 500ft these are usually clubs that are under congested airpace

Martin3 08-04-2006 07:54 PM

R/C can be an expensive hobby. I use to race 1/8th buggies. Upgrades, mods, and broken parts never end.

gangbangjoe 08-05-2006 01:23 AM

nice skills shok
especially the landing was smooth

iDope 08-05-2006 03:36 AM

RC is great, But where I live there are not many open spaces :(

L0rdJuni0r 08-05-2006 05:37 AM

awesome! I've always wanted one of those! :thumbsup

EdgeXXX 08-05-2006 05:50 AM

Haha!!! That's pretty sweet Shok. Always thought about getting an RC Jet with turbines as a hobby, just kept putting it off. Well, that and I guess I should probably learn how to fly a prop version first, huh? LOL

This hobby can be a "little" expensive, but I bet it worth the fun. By the way the $25,000 equipment is from Germany?

Shok 08-05-2006 08:52 AM

well some good stuff is from Germany, like the Graupner/Jetcat motors.

But one of the most expensive kits come from florida at BVM bvmjets.com
They have a new kit thats in the $9,000 range, and thats just the kit.

You still need retracts, motor, radio and paint. Thats about another 6-10k

JohnV 08-09-2006 08:46 AM

Shok,

here is some serious competition for you....
