Innocence and honesty in the Mid-west (pics)
When you come from the "big city" sometimes the simple/quaint things really make an impression. Such was the case of this fruit/vegetable stand that we went to.
No one there to make sure you paid, just a couple signs and a box to drop the money in. http://a1der-babe.com/indy93.jpg http://a1der-babe.com/indy94.jpg http://a1der-babe.com/indy95.jpg http://a1der-babe.com/indy96.jpg |

Yeah, well I would not expect that you would have any idea how that works. |
there used to be an old man who sold tomatos like that in my town, he might still do it, but im not sure...
they were the best damn tomatos too! |
....that's weird!! lol
Used to see lots of those in my hometown up in Western P.A. Still are some around. Good old days. :Oh crap
i can relate to that shit...
cool stuff... reminder of yesteryear
nice pics
You don't see those often.
it works that way at a lot of places around here as well
there are a lot of those out near where my parents live, in rural ohio.. very cool stuff. :2 cents:
i often wonder if i'd rather live somewhere like that than in plastic OC where i live |
I tried using the honor system for Holloween. Needless to say it didn't go over well.
A couple of kids were good, but there's very little honor with kids and candy. |
yeah I love those too ! ! ! eating free and all rocks !
welcome to where i was born....
Nice to see.
awesome to know it still exists
wow that's just great to see :)
Grewup in Chicago. Saw a bumb take a piss on the fruit in that open air market once. Guess it added to the flavor. :helpme :helpme :helpme :1orglaugh
Looks like goot times :)

See Sig :)
there's a store like that here, I think it's nice, promotes honesty... I guess it's more humiliating to know that we're fooling ourselves than we're fooling others
I've got lots of farmers in my extended family, they still do that too.
For the most part, people that buy fruit and veggies from road stands aren't the type that would steal anyhow. |
thieves shop at supermarkets
400 bucks for watermelon ?
Those guys are crazy |
They do that alot in Asia... Pity some parts of the world aren't so honest...
The only problem with the honor system is how little honor there is in the system.

very cool. I see a few of those "honor system" farm stands in upstate NY & VT too.
Theoretically, people see money on the counter, and no one around, they think they're being watched.
Honesty through paranoia. |
too bad the rest of the world doesn't live by the honor system, including most of our own country.
A lot of the farmers have honour system stores at the front of their farms here. It pays for their beer, we get cheap vegies, everyone wins!
wow.. just like in the movies... where is that? the village?
were the pictures taken as evidence, in case they tried to prosecute you? :)
And I noticed that it was monopoly money that he put in.
