Man arrested for CP - CNN

Not sure if this has been posted already.

TORONTO, Ontario (AP) -- A Canadian man faces an array of child pornography charges after a massive international investigation that could involve more than 100 victims in Canada and England, authorities said Friday.

Mark Gary Bedford, 21, is accused of talking young females -- some as young as 9 years old -- into exposing themselves over an Internet webcam, and then threatening them with rape, bodily harm and death if they did not cooperate, police said at a news conference.

"I have never seen this many victims involved, and I'm safe to say that at this point and time in this early stage of this investigation we're looking at well in excess of 100," said Ontario Police Det. Sgt. Frank Goldschmidt.

Bedford is charged with two counts of child luring, two counts of possessing child pornography, three counts of making child pornography, two counts of distributing child pornography and three counts of extortion.

Police allege he operated under the screen names Marco1812000 and Supalover666 and would hack into his victims' e-mail accounts to access their buddy lists.

The nine-month probe by police in Canada and Britain could lead to additional charges.

The alleged victims are girls between the ages of 9 and 15 and live in Edmonton, Sault Ste. Marie, Kingston, Ottawa and the region of Kent, east of London, England.

"It's obvious that this type of Internet crime is without borders," Goldschmidt said.

Bedford is in custody in Kingston, Ontario, and is set to appear in court there Monday.

Police said the accused was unemployed, living at home with his parents and that he spent a lot of time on the Internet.

"It just seems that some of the kids that are involved in this type of activity these days really don't feel like they're doing anything wrong because they're in the comfort of their own home," he said.

"It amazes me to this day that parents allow their children to be locked up in their bedrooms with state-of-the-art computer equipment and then they get involved in this type of activity."

HR 4472 and 2257 will put and end to all this for sure!

Scott McD 07-28-2006 04:27 PM

So he actually talked them into doing stuff on a webcam on their own comps. Hmmm.

And where the hell are the parents anyway ??

They should change the term for cp. It is not porn. It is child abuse, torture neglect, etc. But it sure as fuck ain't porn.
This guy is a good reason to bring back public executions.
Makes me want to smash my monitor just reading about it.

Truth?? Webmasters are no different to the general public.

Adult webmasters also have an agenda or business interest in opposing child abuse.

The public have a difficulty in separating CP from the adult biz. This is used by politicians and others with an agenda.

Bottom line is there are both members of the public and webmasters who abuse children - there is no distinction when it comes to child abuse - it crosses all social classes.

That's a good question. Just more proof that children under 16 should not be allowed unsupervised acces to the internet. With a webcam, no less.

I've noticed that in Canadian and British news programs, when then talk about this subject, they tend to call it what it is, child abuse. They focus on the worst crime, the abuse of the children. In the US they call it child porn, because they want to attempt to demonize porn. Images of naked children are not porn, they're evidence of a crime, sexual abuse.

Hopefully this fucker gets a long term. But that's one of the worst aspects of Canada IMO, they don't tend to give long prison sentances. That's good when it's some 19 year old kid busted with drugs, not good in this case. This guy should never see the light of day.

True Mr S - the issue is really the core and more serious offense - ie abuse of kids. The CP matter is incidental stuff that may happen after the horse has bolted.
