Nice, but you might want to try focusing on the girl rather than the cover of the sofa behind her. Sort of helps to make it work out.

it's a bit soft however not enough to be concernned about . . I don't use sharping in post and I haven't 'edited' the set yet . . just pulled this pic up and posted it . . I'll yank the FU images when I do the post . . post some of yer stuff? -bmb

not that many good SLR's that have a variety of lens choice and availability nation wide for various 'gadgets' other than canon and Nikon . . the Olympus and the Minolta as well as Kodak never really seemed like a valid option + I started shooting with a 1964 Nikon F so I have Nikon glass . . glass is a rather large investment and I wouldn't wanna change all that now . . however I did shoot with Fuji's for 4-5 years because they use Nikon glass . . that answer yer question?

Wanton, GIGO... if you get the focus right when you take the picture, then photoshop is to add the icing to the cake. Get it wrong, and you have to use it to make a fake cake.

Take time when you shoot, get the best product you can to start with, and you will get the best results in the end :)

that's the strangest thing . . I don''t really see 'blury' other photograhers I've discussed this image with haven't said anything about OOF (new lighting technique) so I've been chatting with a few shooters about it . . . how odd?

alex i shoot about 300K of HQ content year by myself . . one slightly oof pic posted on a BB, when I was in a hurry, is nothing to be concerned about, really. I sure am glad you could find some 'meaning' in yer life from my work . . .

Then you need to talk to other photographers or something... because they aren't telling you much about your technique or product.

The pompoms and the back of the sofa behind her right are are nicely in focus, and her eyes and mouth (the parts that most people use to judge the quality of an image of a person) is very soft... very very soft in fact.

You can easily add softening to an image, but it's a bitch to make a soft image look tight and well focused.

id hit it......

actually all I know are photographers and we're chatting about the soft lite to be honest about . . the focus isn't really a concern with one image that is going to be tossed anyway . . I've seen this before with guys that don''t shoot 1500+ images, and 1+ hr of video a day . . . you guys get hyper sensitive about 1 image . . . . no big deal, really . . . I have 250 more from that set and that image is replicated several times . . . . . no client will ever see this image and since your so upset I'll make sure and screen anything I post on the boards so you can relaxe a little . . how does that sound? (read actually) . . and if I was really worried I would yank the image and replace it . . so go have a glass of water and watch TV unwind a bit . .

Wanton, here's the thing... if you are going to post a pic, for the sake of your rep you should post a good one, not a bad one. It's all marketing, right? Eveyrone shoots bad pics, it is pretty normal in the mix that some just don't work out... but I wouldn't use a junk pic to promote myself :)
