the big diff b/w plasma & lcd is artifacting, if you watch a lot of sports or fast moving motion scenes, the lcd is inferior to plasma

Lcd lasts longer, but plasma is a better tv.

You and Camslord are correct. I have a 57" DLP and I fucking LOVE IT. I watch it for enjoyment. I watch my 42" plasma when I'm too lazy to get out of bed. |
I got myself a 62" DLP
and a 37" LCD on the wall love them both to death :thumbsup |
lcd........

Be carefull if you put consoles on them I have a cheap 42" downstairs and one of my mates has fucked it so it has major ghosting on it from playing crazy taxi on Xbox all the time! Go for a decent brand and be carefull about logos and stuff you should be fine with plasma |
plasma all the way :thumbsup
|
Sony X series LCD screens are probably much better than Plasmas. The next generation LCDS are where it's at. I'm waiting on the 46 sony bravia X series to come to montreal. The 40 is out here but 46 is going to be sweet. But definitely hold up on waiting for the best LCD over plasma, the ghosting/blacks that previously gave LCD a bad rap are almost all gone/fixed. So I would get a LCD.

First rule of owning big tvs: Don't let people play fucking video games on them if you want them to last. Seriously. Get a 42" tube for that shit. |
LED DLP's are out now. And LED LCD's will be out soon and will probably blow away the plasma's.
Go DLP unless you just want something you can hang on the wall. On sale and free shipping. http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...&Sku=S223-5024 Thinking about ordering it myself. |

Then it fell down, now I have no LCD anymore :helpme Luckily my insurance will cover it, so I'll get a new next week :winkwink: |
I have owned all of them, all shapes and sizes.. Plasma is the brightest thin tv with a great image. LCD is better hd but poor light and viewing angles and most have issues with deep black colors. DLP is the best picture hands down on all counts, just bigger.. Nuff said.

lcd for teh win

LCD's are kickass for Xbox 360's, High def xbox 360 on 45inch LCD Sharp freaking ROCKS! best gaming i've ever seen and graphics to die for. With no burn in worries like you get with Plazma, you can't game on plazma screens.
Have a 60inch Plazma which is great for TV and beautiful picture, but you have to watch burn in, if you fall asleep infront of tv a lot be careful. The highest quality ones aren't so much of an issue but still best to be careful with them. My Plazma was left on white wash (to clear burn in) for 8 hours by accident and it burnt out the black, so its a slight dark grey instead of black. So when using whitewash be careful :) |
JFK buy both keep the one you like and send me the other. :thumbsup

Deeper black levels and better contrast ratio with Plasma. Panasonic & Pioneer :thumbsup

Several plasma brands are in their 9th generation and burn-in is all but a thing of the past. You still have to be careful but it's not like watching CNN for 8 hours straight is going to cause issues.
One advantage of LCD is that you can find 1080p capable panels in smaller sizes than you can the plasma, specificially 40-45". Plasma manufacturers will probably crack that nut next year though. Sharp's Aquos series is the only LCD I'd consider here in terms of picture quality. DLP are cheap in large sizes but that's because they use tricks to exploit limits in the average person's vision but a lot of people are sensitive enough to notice. Plasma certainly has the better overall picture quality. For what it is worth I recently went for a 42" Panasonic plasma and couldn't be more happy with it. |

Great thread JFK as I was pondering this very question today. I would like to get a 42" for the living room, any bigger and I'd have to knock down a wall lol...great answers so far. I've been leaning towards the LCD myself, either Panasonic or Sony....
|
I have several plasmas and LCD's. I would go DLP unless you need a flat wall install.
|
My advice, walk into the shop and just pick the TV that you like the look of and has a nice picture and just buy it.
Technology is moving so fast that the models in the shop will be obsolete in a couple of months anyway, so don't worry too much about features, just buy something you like and enjoy it. |
LCD = good quality
Plasma = Better quality (much better) |

Agreed.....I too decided on the Sharp Aquos LCD. Have never been dissapointed. It was so much brighter and crisper then the Plasmas in the same size in Bestbuy. GL |
A good CRT, though huge as a mother fucker, is my favorite choice for color reproduction. Not even Plasma can come close yet, though there is one LCD panel I hear coming out with innards made by Techwell that can reproduce close to 97-98% of a CRT's color. Can?t wait for that one? hope the price isn?t insane.

I got a 60 inch DLP.
thats what i recomend JFK :) DUke |
