A question for those who sell/buy established sites...

A quickie question. I'm thinking about selling some very established sites that suffer from neglect (i.e. I just don't have time to work on them any more). The only problem lies in the fact that they all have quite a few pages with old TGP galleries, AVS sites and freesites on. 95% of the content for these pages is non-transferable bought content from a variety of sources rather than sponsor content which would be less of a problem.

So...how does in usually work in that scenario? Do the old tgp, AVS etc pages simply not get transferred and so deleted? The sites are primarily old linklists/tgp's on the front pages but as I say due to neglect, the traffic is mainly risidual with much of it coming fromt he old galleries and freesite pages.

keep the pages, switch the content

That's a thought although may piss of some of the tgp's and linklists the stuff is listed on although perhaps given their age it wont. Oh well. Something to discuss with a potential buyer I suppose. Just need to decide which I want to sell.

Usually it has to be deleted and the pages 404'd.

That makes more sense and was all I could think of. Seems a shame though.

actually, when you buy content, most of the time you acquire the rights for X domain, more than for X person. So you can leave the content there as long as it resides in that domain.

Sadly not in the case here. The content was bought with a license to use on any sites owned by me. I prefer that way usually as it gives me a lot more flexibility. Pain in the ass when you want to sell the domain though.

Oh well.

Just sell the site without the content, and let the buyer worry about details like these...

Yup - on reflection a silly post to start really as there's no obvious way to use any of it. Not to worry though as the stuff's in the process of being sold minus any of the freesites etc of course.

That is too bad
