I grind my teeth, doc says it's from stress, but I am not that stressed out.
Any one else has the same problem?

My brother is also grinding his teeth while sleeping. Is that bad??? He just don't mind it. :)

In boot camp we had a guy that grinded his teeth - I'll never forget that sound.

how do you find out you do it if its while you are sleeping?

yea, the first thin layer from your teeth grinds away after a while, which will leave your teeth unprotected, wich will lead to pain.

doc sees that it's going bad and since you don't grinde your teeth while you are awake, only one conclusion left

Either from a loved one or self discovery as you can visibly damage parts of your teeth. When my mom was a girl she used to grind her teeth bad, fucked up her teeth pretty bad and had to get put in braces.

I grind my teeth. I suppose I'll need one. We'll see what happens after I get my wisdom teeth out.

I got one of those one time, it ended up making my jaw feel like shit when I woke up... I have a little bit of an overbite so it made weird leverage on the jaw...

Haha. those look familiar! I had braces for six years "for cosmetic reasons", and when they finally took them off I thought I was free, but instead they gave me one of those plastic thingies to wear when I sleep. Bastards. Of course I never wore them, untill about a week before I had to go for a check-up. And naturally they wouldn't fit very well... I can still remember the excruciating pain, lol. Probably did my teeth more harm than good :1orglaugh

I changed dentists after moving a couple years ago. My new dentist said I grind my teeth and need to make a mental note before going to sleep to not clinch and grind my teeth. I said "I used to grind my teeth when I was a little kid, but haven't in many years". He lined up my teeth and showed me the wear from the grinding and said the opposite that I had been grinding my teeth for years.

I wore a soft guard like that and found it to be an uncomfortable POS. I had a hard one custom made and it felt like a tight retainer at first, but once I got used to it, worked great. After a few months I didnt need it anymore. Just telling myself mentally "no clinching and no grinding" a few times before sleep trained my brain. If I did clinch or grind after that, I would wake up and stop.

I still do wear my mouthguard now and then if I cant sleep. For some reason I still associate it with "time to go to sleep" so if I cant fall asleep I put in the mouthguard and lights out...

Sorry, long story.. You might be normal though. :1orglaugh Its not always stress and just telling yourself to not clinch or grind your teeth before sleep can do wonders. Almost a meditation type thing that sticks with your subconscience.

Ever have a dream where you are biting down so hard you crush your teeth. I have that every couple months or so and it sucks.

You can also get headaches and neckpain by grinding teeth. A friend of mine was in pain for 2 years and nothing helped. Until his dentist told him to wear those, and suddenly it was all gone :)

I had an ex who used to do that, doctors don't know what the fuck causes it. They guess stress but it could be a wide assortment of things. Its hella bad since you may grind your teeth to breaking point.

Basically close your mouth very lightly, make it so you feel the pressure. Then start moving your teeth back and forth as hard as you can, that's basically what grinding is. Some of the worse grinders will often make an audibly loud noise as they do it... i'ts kinda creepy sounding.

I have to wear them as well. It's also do to a high cafeinne intake. I hate it but if I didn't wear them my teeth would be jacked. You're not the only one. :thumbsup

I had a custom one made about 10 years ago when I got this hot g/f that decided I could not spend the night unless I did something about the grinding.

Same problem here my teeth are very short becouse of it. I have been using a night gaurd for about a year and it works really well.

i don't grind, but i do chew my tongue. it's a stress thing, AND it's stupid. i hope you night time grinding goes away. Good luck.
