The land of Freedom?

Seriously, what's this freedom talking all about?

I heard it on Jay Leno, "Isn't it great with all this freedom"

Can somebody educate me on this???

I'm talking about USA here.

:helpme :helpme

There is freedom as long as you don't step outside the circle of accepted thought, once you do, watch the fuck out.

ok, who didn't see directfiesta and webby sticking their two cents in a mile away?

"freedom" must be a trigger word that alerts the bash america crowd that it's time to visit gfy again.

No... not a trigger - just a farce. People who have a constant need to lay claims to something most of the world already take for granted and rarely mention, usually have a problem underneath.

Mixing freedom and the US is like oil and water and sure brings the defenders out to attempt to defend the indefensible - truth hurts sometimes. Live with it.

I really don't see the US as the land of the free... I'm from canada and we have clear lines not to cross . Your country don't and the freedom is menaced every day.

I am curious to know what examples of those lines your talking about?

First thing the defenders use is grasp some stats - whether even remotely accurate of not. (Not saying there may not be fair basis either).

Canada never was the subject of this thread - it's the US that constantly claims to be "free". Canadians and most other webmasters on this board rarely have a need to mention their "freedoms" - they have them already.

Only my :2 cents:, but I've never lived in any country that has had less "freedoms" than the US currently has, tho suspect it was not always that way.

ProducerCashDave 07-25-2006 08:19 PM

Nothing in the world is free, since free is inside the word freedom, then freedom doesn't exist, thats how I see it

Hanging on by a thread ...

I think this guy ( in the US of Fucking A ) can say that freedom is gone:

Bdiddy 07-25-2006 08:30 PM

It's simple maxjohan, "land of the free" is a term that's been around for a long time and yes...it was leno's punch line. :1orglaugh

Here's another good one from Leno:

"In Iraq today, the governent began drafting their constitution...I don't understand this. Why don't we just give them ours? I mean we don't seem to be using it anymore"

Mmmm.. Freedom can mean more to some than others and can cover a wide range of things - often based on "priorities".

Generally freedom is minimal interference in individual life. Freedom is a state of having the right to do as you wish within commonly accepted social standards, generally unfettered and unobstructed. Freedom is the right of self-determination - the list can be endless.

When some "authority" dictates you may not visit this county or that etc - that imposes on individual freedom.

When an authority imposes taxation on it's citizens who are resident in other nations - that is not freedom, more serfdom.

When an authority places obstacles in the path of individuals in their rights to self-determination - that is not freedom.

There are plenty more examples other than the three above - but all three currently apply to the US and a few other nations.

Screw what anyone or any nation says or claims - I'm prob one of the first in line to protect individual freedoms, irrespective who they are or whatever their beliefs are.

Freedom is when Hippies were in America and in other countries weren't:winkwink:

biftek 07-25-2006 09:10 PM

freedom ppfft , it never did exist , its just one of those things that the government tells us that we have but we don't really have it
tell the lie , enforce the lie , the lie soon becomes the truth

although i aint in america , but here in australia we get told about the freedom that we are meant to have, that we don't really have

E$_manager 07-25-2006 10:00 PM

i also think this is like a label for USA but actually there is no freedom.
