Eurotrash only : Lidl vs Aldi

which one do you prefer and why ? or do you have money and thus you dont go to either of them ? :upsidedow

Libertine 07-24-2006 07:13 PM

Neither. I like my food fresh.

Michael O 07-24-2006 07:20 PM

We only have Aldi here in Denmark and I never go there.
We have Netto also discount store and its 100 times better than Aldi.

jollyperv 07-24-2006 07:22 PM

Aldi's are all over the US now, cheap as fucking dirt

MaDalton 07-24-2006 08:01 PM

just go there if nothing else is open - always can't find the things i wanted to buy

Kristian 07-24-2006 08:14 PM

Have never shopped at either one ... but if I did, I suppose Aldi, since I've seen more which might mean they're better. I think its best to spend a lot on food, health-wise.

okdesign 07-24-2006 11:29 PM

I never had any problems with Lidl! :thumbsup

da man 07-25-2006 12:00 AM

i find them both just about the same

chupachups 07-25-2006 12:03 AM

We dont have Aldi but if I could, I would blow every Lidl store into pieces

Trax 07-25-2006 12:29 AM

Aldi and Lidl are owned by the same people
they most likely dont give a shit about what you like more :)

Damian_Maxcash 07-25-2006 12:32 AM

LIDL!! - Take the piss all you like - but they do the best gravalux in the UK.

cheekycherry 07-25-2006 12:53 AM

Aldi does great computer promos every so often, amazing specs and low prices but the last 1 I bought from there was fucked, so it went back.

Lidl sold my mum some manky meat that was off.

Both shit.

Morrisons is where it's at!

gooddomains 07-25-2006 01:00 AM

Lidl has way better products

Manowar 07-25-2006 01:04 AM

they are both bad

Netto! When I was strawberry picking in Lille Skensved I used to cycle to Netto for some cheap wine :) Good times...

I never went to Aldi while living in the UK, and in Finland we only have Lidl. I used to buy cheap chocolate in bulk from there :thumbsup

joshll 07-25-2006 01:13 AM

they are owned by the same company. they are all owned by Safeway Foods Ltd. which also owns Safeway its the riches supermarket chain and they offered 120 million for tesco when tesco was in its early stages but tesco refused, tesco is now worth something like 50 billion

Lee 07-25-2006 01:20 AM

Im not skint (or Eurotrash) but I occasionally go into Lidl, but I only go for 2 things. Firstly their black forest ham is not only great value, but it tastes awesome too. Secondly, they get foreign Pepsi which has a slightly mellower taste than our own and I sometimes buy that.

Other than that I dont tend to go there.

Kimo 07-25-2006 01:39 AM

what are they, grocery stores?

swedguy 07-25-2006 01:46 AM

Neither, I don't like Netto either.

Sarah_Jayne 07-25-2006 02:28 AM

I haven't had to use either for a while BUT I like German food and that is the best place to get German food. A few years ago we had a German student staying with us and she said a good num ber of the stuff at lidls were brands she knew from Germany. They were also the only places for years that I could get iced tea in the UK.

You can tell I live in a classy town because we have both an aldis and a lidls. The one thing Aldis has over Lidls is a 'healthy' range.

There are many Lidls in Denmark now.
They suck bigtime in comparison to Aldi though.

I prefer "Netto" myself, although Aldi is often cheaper with the same stuff.

Dirty Dane 07-25-2006 03:19 AM

Don't know Lidl, but Aldi sucks if you need more than butter and millk. They even put milk next to motoroil :1orglaugh

mOrrI 07-25-2006 03:23 AM

They have good stuff :D
and are cheap :D

justsexxx 07-25-2006 03:24 AM

As a kid I used to goto the Aldi very often...From the pocketmoney I got from my parents I could buy one KILOGRAM of chocalate there:)

HAha.. I never though about that. But you're right - they do.

gangbangjoe 07-25-2006 04:27 AM

both are well sorted in germany

karlm 07-25-2006 04:48 AM

Both are good i like em

SnakeMind 07-25-2006 05:06 AM

Depends on which country your in :)
In Germany I prefer Aldi over Lidl because of the A brand stuff (like coca cola etc.) But here in Holland it doesn't matter which one you visit, in my town they are neighbours, so if the Aldi hasn't the product I go to lidl, and visa versa...

Trax 07-25-2006 05:26 AM

the thing many people dont know is that the quality of both sortiments is insanely good. big companies like nestle and alike sell their products simply under different name and a crappy package so their brands arent being hurt but its actually the same product they sell in other stores for a lot more (yogurt for example).
I know I read a very interesting article on that
maybe someone wants to dig it up :)

Not true. We also have Lidl stores i Jylland.

But I do agree about Netto. If I have to shop those places Netto is the best place.

True....Many products are just the same as A brands, just a different label...

I just don't like the aldi that much, because here, they don't have 'fresh' vegetables...So I still need togo to 2 stores..

Back in school I worked on a project about distribution of brand names, and believe me, almost ALL producers do this to target all markets and to take full advantage of their production, stock -and distribution systems. Even within same stores, you can find same product with different package.
Obviously, I can't start mention names, but this is based on interviewing many managers at all levels. So next time you buy, look at the producer names, not the product name :)

i know which is why i mentioned it.
i just find it funny when people blame those cheap retailers, saying that the quality of what they sell sucks whereas its the same they buy more expensive elsewhere

Yes, most of the standard products are the same, but there are other factors like service, fresher products, wider product line etc, that make people willing to pay more. And the shopping experience... I don't wanna wait 10 minutes in line or ask for something missing on shelves, just because they have less employees :)

True

I used to work for a company who delivered optical sensors for the packaging industry, visited a LOT of production plants. And its true, row A makes the A brand for $5.99 a carton and row B makes the same for 3 bucks less for Aldi or Liddl.

Especially candy, choclate as well.

Pimpin_J 07-25-2006 08:09 AM

I hate em both. Supermarkets suck anyway. I like to get my stuff delievered. Saves me time and isnt that expensive at all :)

Oh yea, chocolate. One of the producers made "luxury" chocolate that looked very nice and with the finest paper. Meanwhile, you could buy it with same ingredients under another name and boring look... but with 5 times the weight and 5 times cheaper :1orglaugh
