Looks like Topbucks is making a Big Move into Gay Sites.

I checked my stats today and saw like 10 new gay sites. Gay Niches, sweet! I haven't seen many sponsors doing this, and I think this will convert gay traffic a lot better. The new ones I see are:
Gay Amateur XXX
Gay Asian XXX
Gay Ebony XXX
Gay Facials XXX
Gay Fetish XXX
Gay Interracial XXX
Gay Mature XXX
Gay Military XXX
Gay Orgy XXX
Gay Videos XXX
Just waiting for linking codes and banners to go up for these. Another :thumbsup to Topbucks.

great. more straight people running sites they know nothing about.

altho i am ever the pessimist, we'll see how they do.

[Labret] 06-09-2002 07:23 PM

So true.

They think all they have to do is throw a bunch of over distributed cock pictures of guys from the 80s with no regard to niche, and then throw in some canned feeds of the same tired shit. Wam bam, gay megasite.

They sell like shit.

My favorite is when they make sites with rainbows and other assorted shit they think "gays" will like.

Unless Topbucks new sites are exclusive content, forget it. Will convert like ass.

The gay market is vitually untapped... I thought about having a gay site but I don't have the time to run it. I live in a town with a high gay population and every day I have guys calling me... I just turn them down. If someone wants to design an amateur gay site and do 100% of the marketing, I may be interested. I'll hire a gay guy to shoot content, dunno if I can look at cock all day, lol.

Dawgy 06-09-2002 07:29 PM

yup yup.

your average gay surfer is not into rainbows or pride or any of that shit. he just wants to see cute boys (or men) doing whatever he likes. that means niche. guys who like twinks dont like bears, and guys who like solo jerkoff pics dont like orgies.

the only ones into rainbows are underage flamers, and they cant pay for a site anyway... so... wuts the point?

:2 cents:

They need a straight guy site...does anybody but ARS have a straight site anymore?

sweetcuties 06-09-2002 10:16 PM

topbucks rocks

Sjayne 06-17-2002 02:56 PM

The ones I love are the ones that use abusive langauge..like a little bit of gay bashing mixed with porn is going to get a surfer's dick hard.

Randy 06-17-2002 04:06 PM

Hey Lebret...
Yep couldnt agree with you more. the gay market is not as tapped as teh straight one..but to say its untapped its not correct. there are already too many sites that use the same content and the same feeds. Its not as easy a market as the straight one and you have to know how to market it ....

I did some research lately and foun out that 4 out of 7 "big sites had the same content on it...some of the same pics and the same feeds...
If your goingto have a paysite ..get underused content and find some under used feeds....
Of course this is coming from a content provider....but its what I believe...

i always have good luck with gay sponsors,
much better than straight

TopCashQ 06-17-2002 04:33 PM

True, our gay sites are not entirely unique, but I don't see anything wrong with the conversion ratios, to this point. gayfacialxxx.com, for example, is converting at 1/116.6, thus far.

While not all of the sites were designed by gay men, they have all been reviewed, critiqued and "test driven" by gay men, and we make adjustments based on the feedback our members send to us, as well. As with our straight sites, we will be adding alternative front ends and tours based on our continuing research and testing of various approaches.

I understand the thinking behind assuming that a gay designer/marketer would do a superior job in administering a gay site, it's not an entirely sound bit of reasoning. Let's say, for the sake of argument, that I'm a gay man who likes his men big and hairy; how do I have any kind of advantage when designing or marketing a twink site? If the theory goes that one has to be an actual consumer of the kind of porn one is marketing in order to be effective at marketing it, then I'd better hire some chubby chasers to market my BBW sites, a marketer that only goes for Asian girls to market my Asian sites, etc. etc., no?

I'm not going to claim to be an expert on the "gay market", and I think it's a little silly for anyone to claim to be one. There is no such thing, really; the tastes and desires of gay men vary just as widely as straight men, and it's the ultimate in presumption to think that any individual, straight or gay, is going to know what the "right" way to market and design for each individual fetish.

Randy 06-17-2002 04:46 PM

Agreed lots of straights hve done well with some great gay sites....
My concern was not so much with your sites (which I have not viewed) but with some of the ones I have seen out there...Alot of the same stuff.

I believe its just important for webmasters to know the niche they are marketing too. Mke sure that what you advertise you have you have.....and to have something on it that people are not going to see plastered everywhere...

Sjayne 06-17-2002 07:27 PM

Well for starters 'chubby chaser' is a term used in the gay community to refer to men that like big men - not the straight community. In the straight world, bbw fans, are called FA's or fat admirers. So, yes perhaps someone who knows the niche might be a good idea.

The term is used in both the gay and straight porn markets. I worked for a porn video/magazine company for several years that had been using "chubby chasers" to describe fans of their BBW mags/videos since the late 1970s, so I don't think it's quite as cut and dry as you are making it seem.

Still, agreed; fat admirers is a better term - it's just not the only one in use. Notice, for example, "Chubby Chasers" Volumes 1-5 on this list of straight videos
