Heres the bottom line...

Within a few years America will have the best soccer team. Just like every other sport, our $ and influence will bring over the best players.

yeah, but like i said, its all down to size.

imagine that europe was one country, bringing it to roughly the size of the usa. english, german, dutch, french, and all the other country's players rolled into one. that soccer team would be near unbeatable.

but comparing usa to a country like england, or comparing england to the usa, by either of the two saying "we're the best" (england is roughly the size of oregon i believe) is pretty unfair be it soccer or any other sport.

its like comparing britain to a tiny island in the pacific ocean. :)

just like brazil. huge country where soccer is a popular sport. hence, they're good at it - there have to be some GOOD players in that 175 million population. pretty unfair comparing it to something like estonia that managed to string together a team from only a 1.5 million population.

I played when i was a kid & was pretty good at it, but then by the time i turned 12 i realized that American Football was the sport for me :)

same reason usa doesn't have a good team... soccer isn't big over there. india is into cricket. fuck only knows what china is into.

if soccer was as popular in the usa as it is in places like italy and brazil then the usa would surely have a good team. even i could string together a good team given the usa's 270 million population. :)

sure the usa excels in many of its popular sports. its a big country, it has big resources. the population is huge! when you have such a big population there have to be good sportsmen that excel in their own niche, be is basketball, hockey, "football", baseball or otherwise.

more or less, its down to size. you'll hardly ever see a smaller country with a smaller 2 million population excel in a sport such as soccer. of course there are always exceptions.

england has around a 60 mil population. a smaller country shouldn't be much of an opposition in soccer. but bring together the best players from 30 smaller countries (30*2mil popul. =60mil popul. ) and it'll be one hell of a competitor for the england team.

seems that cheating is popular in russia. when it comes down to the sport of professional cheating, russia would cream any other country by far. hence, i proved my theory. ;)

Funny thing is, the only reason most smaller European countries are even around, is because they are tax havens for wealthy American business men :)

England will win the World cup, mark my words.....Americans have the money but no talent. Look at the Brazilians, from the age of 4 they play football from sunrise to sunset, thats why they have the silky skills.

i'd hope that england could cream brazil after their argentina performance. plus brazil like to show off and it could be their downfall... yet, i still have my doubts as any other soccer fan would. brazil are surely no walk-over.

you're not thinking that the $ and the women is already there...

A good match in one of the 3rd world countries generates revenues in the millions of dollars, during league play, you have 20 or so games during the weekend (depending on the country)

Now... soccer players, DO make a lot of cash, they are rich and have celebrity status in 100 or so countries...

in the USA, people don't give a fuck about soccer (I don't really give a fuck about it either, it's just another sporting event)

Simply, to be able to pull the cash to get say, Zidane (worlds #1 player, valuated around 60 million usd) into a US Soccer team
you need two things:

1) An investor, who would be looking to get his money back as soon as possible...

2) Masses of people to go see the games...which is what will give the investor his money back...

See? simply put, no one is going to invest into US soccer, because there is no real ROI here (no one in their own mind would do it)...

BTW, there was an attempt to create a US soccer league, to put it bluntly, it's not there anymore :)

Take a walk around toronto & see how many native canadians you see. You can probably count them on one hand. Not saying i have a problem with that, although the arab guys dressing up like rap stars is quite amusing :)

Thats interesting because growing up, the good soccer players came from the million dollar homes on River Road. Most of their fathers were lawyers/doctors/engineers. I mean hell, the soccer moms all drive $50,000 Sport Utility Vehicles.
