Music Industry anyone?

I was wondering if anyone here knows of any good music industry bulletin boards? I've already looked through search engines and come up with a whole bunch of bullshit. I am looking for something similar to what this board does for adult....I'm mainly looking for distribution and online marketing info.

I'm in the adult industry also and read GFY all the time..I just don't post. I'm just looking for help...I don't need all the freaking out. Since all online marketing is pretty much affiliate driven I figured maybe some people on this board might know a good resource.

hey dknu....i'm knee deep into distribution & online marketing at the moment (just released a new album).

to be honest, there aren't many "general" music industry forums, although there are a lot of informative websites. but if you want a forum, possibly narrow down your search to your specific genre of music.

or, if you have some basic questions, we can discuss :thumbsup

Thanks for the myspace wisdom and the guy playing with his scrotum...great shit.

The artists I manage are in the hip hop genre. The main thing I am trying to figure out now is what are the best sites to try and deal with that bring good online music buying traffic through. I already have myspace going and will sell cds directly from the page through paypal, but it doesn't seem like people will buy that many units off myspace to me. Itunes seems to be the biggest place to sell downloads from what I have heard, but it seems like they probably push more artists signed to a major label and I don't know if they will even accept my artists. Basically I want to know what is working best for independent labels as far as selling units online so I can focus my efforts in the right direction.

www.velvetrope.com

You aren't gonna make one sale there so don't try to spam your shit. It's strictly for music industry professionals to discuss business.

Good luck with your project.

if you want to get in to itunes the only way is by being in someones catalogue. Either be signed to a major deal or cdbaby.

You didnt actually expect a real response to this thread, did you?

Industry Boards:
recordoftheday.co.uk (more uk based)
velvetrope.com for usa.

Itunes will accept unsigned artists providing they jump on board with a distribution company, now there are a good few out there - some of them free to join too, though I couldn't tell you any for your genre. If you're just out to make cash you might want to consider something like weedshare, less exposure for the artist but more money.

If you want to sell units you've gotta create a buzz, gigs, radio appearances, club nights, online you can plug yourself on millions of review + interview sites, social networking, playlist sites (audioscrobbler, itunes etc..), podcasts, having your music behind funny vids on youtube etc...

Good luck with it dude!
